RE: Foggers, Sprayers, and Other Campers

Just a question for those of you who use foggers and/or sprayers to control flying pests while camping...
 
 I ve never used a " fogger" , or sprayed anything around a campsite. What are you " fogging"  the air with? Does it migrate past your campsite on the breeze? Personally, I hate the smell of most insecticides (Raid, etc.). Is this the stuff that comes in a fogger? How do you deal with other campers if they do not wish to smell the fogger? And conversly, how would you deal with another camper spraying stuff next to your campsite? I mean, isn t it kinda like somebody spraying pesticide next to your food spread out on the picnic table?
 
 I m NOT trying to flame anyone or start a war. Just curious what these products are, if they stay localized to your campsite, what they smell like, and how to deal with other campers.  Thanks for any input.

I m OTHER too! I would not use a fogger or a spray at the campground OR at home! I will smear on some DEET though!
 The exception here is Wasp & Hornet spray!!! I use that cuz if I get stung I end up looking like the Goodyear Blimp!

Come black fly season, foggers and sprayers come out of the woodwork.
 Wind is the enemy as unless your downwind it doesn t have much effect.
 I carry, as I ve said before, a couple of cans of Yard Guard and when arriving the first thing (if the wind is still or really light) is to spray the site.  The activity of setting up stirs up everything that s made it s home there and the extra activity by us humans puts out extra CO2 as an added atractant.
 Yes, I try to take other campers feelings into concideration and often offer them a spray when I see them swatting away trying to set up.[]

We spray the woods and brush surrounding our PU.  We camp on lots so big and far from our neighbors that no one is going to be close enough to us to smell the spraying.
  Neighbors who have walked by and seen my husband spraying have come over and asked it they could hire him to spray their lots also.

Howdy Dave I m with Mike & Opie. I use yard guard when we get to the site and spray the plants and shrubs around the site. I also spray just before dusk and burn citronella torches along with our campfire. Wind is the problem but spraying the shrubs really does the trick. I am a courteous camper and try not to spray away from my site, but like Opie when the skeeters and the noseeums attack, the neighbors come looking for help.

 We don t spray around our camp site either,what a waste of time.We do spray a little inside the p.u. at bed time.

with all this rain we have been haivng the masquitos seem to be just looking to bite, i am thinking of bringing the yard guard this weekend.. dont forget the ant spray....

I would never spray a campsite.  I can t even imagine trying to spray a campsite....  and I would really bug me (ha ha)  if a neighboring site was spraying around my area!  ick.  I really don t like that smell!
 
 If the bugs are bothering us, we put on some stuff with Deet in it on us... and also on the dog s ears (which are about the only place on our dogs that bugs can reach through all the hair to their skin).

I also spray our campsite first thing after popping up..  Then I spray again about 4 hours later..then twice daily  till we leave.  At night, out come the torches, candles and big fat Dominican Maduro cigars, but my trusty 2 gallon pump sprayer is always close by, and just full of that poison stuff...  Actually, all that is really needed is ground spraying, small scale fogging is probably a waste  Here in FLA, mosquito control fogs quite often beginning at 9 pm., very effective, but the sprayers on the back of those trucks are huge.  ever noticed the lack of bugs at Ft Wilderness ?

    I am afraid there will be a bumper crop of flying pests this season with all the rain we have had. . As I get ready to leave for a few weeks camping I have wondered about what to do about the bugs. Have even put a thread out on Deet to see what you all had to say. With asthma I do not get along with the sprays. So what is one to do I ask? Looks like we use a low dose of Deet and keep coved up with light clothing.
 
   Hope I did not steal you thread but, I can tell ya that I have found that spraying the area is only a short time solution for bugs. Don t like to spray because I don t know what we are killing other than mosquitoes.[&:]

I had no idea so many pepole sprayed around thier sites!  When we stayed over in NY last week I did see a man spraying around the base of his camper, and thought, " What a waste of $$$"   Just my opinion, maybe it does work, but I m not willing to spend the money for it when we don t hang around the site that much!   Although I do wish we had some ant spray while in VA last week!  They really had a blast in our PU!! []

 Yep...me and Holly killed a bunch in our camper, and then we took a trip to town, almost solely for some ant spray. We sprayed along the edges of the roof/ceiling in the camper, and then outside around everything that touched the ground that provided a route to the camper. Seemed like they slowed down.
