whitestar505Hey whitestar505 - My Dad and I were camping at Charlestown Breachway SP in RI last April right on the ocean...  Around 5:30 am, a loon went into it s full glory right under the rear bunk!!  Needless to say, I woke up standing straight up with the sleeping bag and pillows on the floor...  [&:]  When I realized what was making such a loud noise, I stepped out of the PU and watched him fish for over 30 minutes...  It was my first time seeing a loon in the wild - I was mesmerized at what an excellent fisherman this bird was!!  What an excellent experience.  I was paying such close attention to the loon that I didn t realize I was sitting there outside my underwear...  That trip will be talked about in my family for quite a long time...  [:D][:D]

 copcarguycopcarguy,

Sure glad you enjoyed watching him. The Loons are a dying bird. Vermont has a program to try to bring them back, and working very well I may add. In Upper upstate New York State you can still find them out there on some of the quieter lakes.

whitestar505We love listening to the loons when we go camping in Maine.  Love to sit in my kayak and watch them on the lake!

whitestar505One of my very favorite sounds.   Thanks for giving us the link so that we can all hear it whenever we want, without having to go into the bush to find it.

whitestar505Loons are alive and doing well in NH.

Had a great experience of watching about 8 or 10 loons doing a mating ritual.

Fantastic to see them skimming on the water beating their wings and making all kinds of noise.

Experience that dw and I will not forget.

 Loons are her favorite bird.
