The Boy Scouts need another adult on a camping trip this weekend.  I don t know if I should take the PU and look down on the boys or should I dig our tent out and rough it???  I sure would miss my cassette potty if I leave it home.

tlhdocEeesh....well Tracy, you know me! I got the pu to get OUT of the tent. I m not sure I could do it, even for a weekend! Mommy s " throne"  is an essential for me! [:D][:D]

Maybe take both? Use the pu as " home base"  and set up the tent for the kids.

 Darn, I m getting old....[:@] (ugh, can t imagine what I ll be like when I hit 40.....) [8D][:D][&:][:@]. Guess I m a wimp.

Have a blast, no matter what you choose!!![:)]

tlhdocI got drafted a couple of times with my son s boy scout troop, and went back to sleeping on the ground.  But i ve done my duty and I m doing it no more.

For family camp, we always brought the Pop-up.

tlhdocDig out your tent and rough it!  It s only one weekend and if your ds is anything like mine ~ he ll think it s cool that parents can still get down on the ground and be one of the kids ...
Have fun whichever way you decide! [:D]

tlhdocTracy.......I may not be a good one to answer this, but the tent can t be THAT bad for a couple of nights.  (with an air mattress, of course).  Those kids will probably tire you out so much you ll be able to fall asleep almost anywhere.  Don t want them to think you are a wimp or anything.  tlhdocLast weekend I went camping with DD in Indian Princesses, and 2 weekends before that, with DS s in Indian Guides.
Both times I took out the ole tent and air matress and roughed it.
The kids thought it was neat sleeping in the tent again.
It does make you appreciate the Popup even more!!

tlhdocTracy, I m a Boy Scout leader and go on pretty much all the campouts with my older son. My younger boy is a Cub Scout and I m also a leader there but Cubs don t camp, thank goodness... But to cut to the chase, I bought a very nice compact cot. Add a self-inflating air mattress and you are all set... Very comfortable. And believe me, I m not the only leader with a cot...

tlhdocThe Boy Scouts have to sleep in one of the Troops tents.  I and maybe another parent would be the only ones sleeping in the PU.  I bought DS a very nice self inflating air mattress for the trip.  If I knew I was going camping I would have done the same.  The other thing I worry about is that my tents have not been used for 7 to 8 years.  They would have to have the seams sealed because it is going to rain (normal for us).  I am still undecided.[&:]

tlhdocAt the risk of hijacking the thread.... do you have to seal the seams in a PU?

Generally, no.  If you use any chemical on the tenting to clean it you may need to go back and re-waterproof it.

tlhdocI have taken my pop up on scout trips and have liked having it.

 Not on the Coleman trailers.

I did take the PU and was happy I did.  Two of the tents the Scouts had were very wet and I kept thinking " that could have been me" .  I will have to get one of the tents out and seal the seams for future use.

tlhdocBeing the only dad to go on my daughters end of the year Girl Scouts camporee, I can tell you campers were not allowed at their event. I was told it would take of away from the spirit of camping. They made me sleep in a bunkhouse with 6 beds (because I had to be segregated). They gave me my own bathroom with 5 toilets, five sinks and 3 showers. Boy that was really camping[:)]. Roughing it like crazy. Best part was the girl scouts had to cook for me and do my dishes[:D]. Can t wait til next year!!!!!

tlhdocEven though we own a pop-up, we still tent camp quite often! We have 3 cabin tents, and a tent that fits over the back of the Jeep. If the wife or I can t get out of work until late on a Friday, and the weekend is supposed to be nice (A rarity this year!) we ll just throw one of the tents in the jeep, grab one of the camp stoves and go! I don t really care where I sleep as long as I m camping!
I would go, and I would tent it if I was you!
PS: I m not saying I don t appreciate the Pop-up even more after a weekend or two in the tent, but it is a change and it is fun!
