I was just informed that the Reenactment scheduled for July 4, 5 & 6 has been postponed due to the wet weather situation at Gettysburg!  The event will now take place August 8, 9 & 10.  I am not sure what I will be doing now in light of this news, but as I find out more I will let you know.

 I am SOOOOOOOO bummed!!!!!![:(][:(][:(][:(][:(][:(]

Civil_War_Buffsorry about the bad news cwb....but a wet reenactment, has to be worse then a dry one...especially with all the wool ppl would be wearing...ick.

 Civil_War_BuffCWB,
Man, I hate to hear this news.  We talked about this trip all weekend!  This throws a wrench into everyone s plans!  We just got home from a partially WET weekend of camping with 2 of the other families going to G burg.  I just emailed the bad news to them.  Not sure what we will do now.  I am assuming (without having talked to anyone else in the group) that we will probably go ahead and go.

 Civil_War_BuffLarry -
That really is a bummer!  I can t imagine the mess this creates for you with cg reservation s, time off from work, etc...
Blame it on Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee.
On the plus side, you get to live another 4 days before getting shot at, maimed, or catch typhoid fever or something.

Y-Guy

Civil_War_BuffLarry I m bumming for you, I know you ve been looking forward to that for a long time.  I just have one serious question.  We all know weather people can t predict the weather for tomorrow let alone today, so how do they know the weather when its still 3+ weeks away.  Maybe they have better weather people than those on the left coast!

Surfcal

Civil_War_BuffLarry, as Y-Guy says, man that blows.

You ll figure something out.  An opportunity always opens up.

Civil_War_BuffLarry---Who d have thunk it---what do they think?  This is war, not a frigging baseball game.

On the positive side....if you decide to, you now have a full vacation scheduled with NO PLANS and no OBLIGATIONS.  Where to do?  What to do?  The possibilities are endless.  Well, I guess " Go to the Gettysburg reenactment"  is out.

We ll raise a beer to the people who won t die on the Fourth of July at Gold Rush.

 TOS,

That was my original thought as well! ha!   But they said something about damage to farmers  fields, and getting stuck, the very same stuff they talked about 140 years ago!

The DW and I are quickly assessing our options and trying desperately to come up with a plan B.  You make some good points, but it was even mentioned that we go to " M-M-M-Michigan"  for the 4th...I could go there and be in the parade in Plymouth(MI not CA).....or I could......

Thanks for the kind words everyone, I have been planning this trip for 2 years, and talking about it for 5 years, that s why I am taking this so hard. I feel badly for those that are living through this weather though.....I sincerely hope and pray that it drys up and gives you all some releif.  I have heard that farmers can t even plant their fields it s so bad...one guy said it s the worst he s seen in 53 years of farming.

One good thing is, I will be with the NNCers in Plymouth, California at the end of next week, so I do have that to look forward to.

Larry that it terrible, especially after all that planning.
You should still do the trip though.
At least you can take the driving a bit easier, and you won t be coming home wounded or anything like that!!!!

Civil_War_BuffWhat a shame.  We had planned on going there with another family for our summer vacation but realized it wouldn t  have worked out this year.  If we had been able to boy would we have been disappointed because it would have been our big trip for the year!  I can understand them cancelling though, because we were there last year and with all the rain, I can just imagine how muddy those fields all are.   With thousands of people tromping on them, it would be a nightmare, plus parking is in all the fields also, so they would really get ripped up with tires from cars and RVs along with the mess of getting stuck.    Hope they get better weather soon and hope maybe you can reschedule for August.

jaycocamprs

Civil_War_BuffWell, we are going to go to Gettysburg anyway.  There are 4 families going from Georgia and we can t change vacation plans at this late date.  Although we are all very disappointed that we won t get to see the reenactment, we ll find plenty other things to do.  One thing that has really gotten us upset is that the reenactment committee has decided that the folks who have purchased tickets, will either be able to use them in August or trade them for tickets for next year.  They do not want to refund $$$$$ ($114 in our case).  We can t go in August and doubt we would plan another vacation to G burg next summer!  That really bites!!!!!

g-whiz

Civil_War_BuffLarry, that stinks! [:(]  I can tell you are mighty disappointed but hope you and Veronica can come up with an alternate plan that ends up being the highlight of your year.  I m looking forward to seeing you two at Gold Rush.
