I know this was covered on the other boards, but I didn t need it then! [&:]  Did a search and struck out on these boards. [: (]  So, here I am ~

Currently we have a indoor/outdoor stove that we hook up to propane with the quick connects in/out of the trailer.  I d like to replace the stove with the big Coleman 3-burner propane stove ~ it runs off 20 lb cylinders.  I know there must be a way to hook into the propane system so we don t have to switch back and forth from the trailer to the stove.  What do I need to do this?

Any help would be appreciated ...

KellyNot sure if this can be done.  You state that the stove you have is used inside and outside.  Stoves intended to be used inside the PU are low pressure and those intended for use outside are high pressure.  Therefore, the stove you are using, and it s connections, should be low pressure.  The stove you want to use sounds like an " outside"  stove, requiring high pressure.  I could be wrong but this is the way I understand it.  If wrong, a good LP supplier should have the fittings you need to make the connection.

I don t think I explained this well.  The Coleman would run right off the 20 lb tank ~ I want to be able to keep the propane hooked up to the PU (for heat!) AND hook it up to the stove.  We wouldn t use the stove connections on the trailer at all.

 KellyKelly,
You will need to put a tee in the line between the tank and the regulator, then get one of the long LP hoses to reach where ever you want the stove, I think the longest they make is 8 . The other thing you could do is get a second tank, put it in a milk crate for stablity, get a lantern tree, and hook the stove to that. A second tank will cost about $40, the lantern trees run between $20-$30, the hoses are about $12. Plus the tree gives you the advantage of having a lantern near where you are working. We have used this basic setup with the Boy Scouts for years. I would use it while I am camping but I am too cheap to give up my perfectly good white gas stoves and lanterns. BTW everything but your 3 burner stove is available at that " Great Emporium of Americana"  Walmart[8D]

Many thanks.  I thought there was a simple answer!  Just didn t know what it was [;)]

Now ~ do I really hafta go to Wally World? [: (][&:][8D]

 KellyKelly,

Going to Wally world is " Women s Work"  according to my FIL[:D] He detests the place.
I forgot to add, another advantage to the second tank is if the first tank happens to run out you still have a back up for which ever you need[8D] Our Niagara has dual tanks with a single regulator and we just manually switch back and forth. Plus in the winter when I am running the Buddy Heaters (no furnace) I usually have a 3rd tank in a Milk Crate. NO WAY am I going to run out of LP!

 KellyKelly,

The only thing I want to add to wahoonc s note is that there may be a differant connections for the stoves on Coleman trailers. There is a quick connect type and a screw type. I beleive, and check this out, that the differant types relate to low or high pressure stoves. Not for sure but check this out. Maybe the experts, and I mean that respectfully, here on the Forums can help. Tim, are you out there?

So if what I say is true, check out the connection for your stove to see if it will work off the trailer. Good luck! This is not to bad an idea!

KellyI was thinking of doing the same thing with my stoves.  I have a Jayco with an inside/outside low pressure stove.  I want to use my Coleman stove outside only and hook it up to the  hoses that was /is used for the stove.  My question is/was, are the hoses low pressure or is the stove low pressure.  Sooo, I called the dealer and was told that it is the stove that is low pressure, all of the hoses are high pressure.  I now need to go to a LP dealer and get the quick connect ends and hose, then I will be good to go.  But then again, I just may stick with the small propane bottles.  Good luck.[8D][8D][8D]

KellyUse the existing stove connectors??!!  oh man ~ I never thought of that! [&:]  hmmmmm ~ maybe it s back to the drawig board for a bit!  LOL

 Thanks, everybody! [:D]

KellyI think that the connections inside/outside the camper are low pressure, they are regulated by the regulator on the LP tank. I am not very familar with systems other than the Coleman.
I would ask specifically where the pressure is regulated at, the stove or the tank, or both. It may be your regulator at the tank is at a " high"  pressure setting, then the stove has it s own regulator to reduce the pressure more. Won t hurt to ask. As far as hoses and fittings are concerned they typically have to be manufactured to meet a higher pressure than what they may be used for. I believe all LP hoses are made to meet a 1200psi standard.

KellyKelly, you don t HAVE to go to Wal Mart[8D]. Camping World has the whole set-up you might need: http://www.campingworld.com/browse/skus/index.cfm?deptID=3&subOf=151,14&skunum=24017  If the link doesn t work, try www.campingworld.com and look under " LP" . We have this set up and it works well, I think we also had to get an adapter to go from a disposable bottle connection to a bulk tank connector. It s simple to hook up and the 12  hose gives you a lot of flexibility. HTH

Oh, I know I don t HAVE to go there.
 goooooooooooooooose, dear? [:)] ~ I have a favor ... [;)] [:D] LOL

The stove comes with the accessories to use the big tank.   Just had to make sure it was do-able.  And 12  of hose means I don t have to rearrange my kitchen setup!  Gotta like that.  I was afraid we were going to have to flip everything around to make it work.  Hard to change those habits, you know!  (I already lose track of which disposable ones I m using where (lantern? grill?) ~ hated the thought of adding another  toy  to the mix!)

I think this is what we ll do this season ~ then look into using the existing stove lines sometime in the future ~ thanks for the idea HersheyGirl!

QuoteSooo, I called the dealer and was told that it is the stove that is low pressure, all of the hoses are high pressure.

Not doubting what you say, but I am questioning the dealers answer as I too have a Jayco! How can the stove be low pressure and the hoses be high pressure with only the regulator at the tank controlling the pressure? I would check another source!
I believe, but wouldn t stake my life on it, that the stove and hoses in the Jayco are all low pressure!

HersheyGirl

garym053Garymo53   I checked out the manual, and you are so right about the regulator and the low pressure.  I think that I need to go find a different dealer.  Do you think that they misunderstood my question? Yikes![8D][8D][8D]
