I work for a company that designs and manufactures camera/display systems for the automotive industry.

One of the engineers that I work with modified an X-10 wireless camera for me and connected the reciever to a 2.5"  video display that flips down from my interior mirror.  The camera is about the size of a coffee mug and runs on 4-AA batteries, and when I need to hook up the trailer I just set it on top of the TV rear wiper and can usually back into position the 1st or 2nd try.  For backing into a CG site I just set it on the roof of the PU.

I think it is the greatest thing since sliced bread, as I no longer need to hop in and out of the TV to hook up the  trailer or back into a site, and the camera is wireless so I can put it anywhere I want within 100 feet of the receiver.  You can even put it outside of the PU if you wanted to monitor the little ones on a TV (television) in the PU.

My question to all of you is, what would you be willing to pay for such a camera system? Just looking for the interest level with this technology.

 Thanks.

TheWallRocksSounds like a neat tool and/or toy.

IMO, I could see it being even more useful when boating. It s alot harder to get down a boat ramp than it is getting into a campsite. Plus more people go boating  alone, than go camping alone.

Not sure I would buy one, I m just too cheap.
Backing up isn t a big enough problem for me, that I need too spend extra $$.
I think alot of people would though, especially when you see what they spend on boats. It would be fun to try.

GDSLTS

TheWallRocksI would be interested if you also design a series of universal mounts that could be used for front doors, nursery, back yards, tubs, automobiles, towing vehicles, popups, trailers, etc. That way, you would be amortizing the cost across many different functions. I m assuming that the unit works across a wide range of lighting conditions. Can the output be shown on regular television, laptop, etc.

 Keep us posted.

TheWallRocksAs a person woh really loves my toys, I would always be interested in another one[:D]

I personally would like it not only for backing, but as a way to look at the TV - trailer connedtion while driving.  I am always " hearing"  a noise and wondering what could be wrong[&:]

TheWallRocksI would love it too.  Not sure what I would pay for one though.

TheWallRocksThe real question is, how much would it cost to produce them and sell them, and still make a profit. There are already some back-up camera systems out there, so if you re interested in a real marketing plan, you d probably have to price them competatively in order to sell them. Camera s are getting cheaper and cheaper, and so are the little LCD displays, so with a little careful shopping around it shouldn t cost a whole lot to manufacture these things...

TheWallRocksSounds cool I think it would be great part of a tow package in a future TV purchase but I don t think it s important enough for me to buy one after market.

TheWallRocksAs one who is a sucker for electronic gadgets, especially ones that may prove useful I would certainly be interested to know what this would cost. I also second GDSLTS comment about a universal mount.

TheWallRocksAmazing! When I suggested getting one of these for backing up and night viewing, I got blasted! LOL

You can mount up to 4 cameras anywhere you want & finally see what s out there making noise in the dark by just selecting the one to view. The cameras operate on batteries so no wiring or electronic knowledge is necessary.

TheWallRocksTopcat, that s a good set-up there, especially the wireless and nightvision part of it!!! I ll have to bookmark that. After trying back my hybrid into a space all by myself at Wolf Run SP in Ohio last month I really see where one of these could come in handy, and the price is right!!!
