On my Coleman A # 10 coffee can squeezed in a little will then slide on over the hitch and feel a lot better to hit with a shin than a bare hitch.  Warning great place for varmints to hide.

RonEveryone has such a problem with hitting the hitch ball. I did to until I learned to pull the drawbar when I wasn t towing. Besides up here in salt/snow country if you leve it in for a winter you have to get a sledge to get it out.[&:][:D]

RonYup, I ve been known to pull the insert out, even at the campground. If we are staying for a few days, I just take it out.

RonI ve got permanent dents on my shins from the hitch on my old Dodge Caravan. Even with the receiver removed it managed to stick out far enough to get me any time I reached for an item in the back of the van. Thankfully the new TV has less extension from the bumper and when the tailgate is down to load and unload its out of " shin reach" altogether. thank Heaven for samll favors!

RonWe take the hitch ball insert out of the receiver when we re in camp. To prevent hitting it when it is in place, I usually leave my stepstool (used for reaching things in the car top carrier, not the one to step into the PU) tucked under it. It is large & bright enough I see it better in peripheral vision than the ball. So far, I ve managed to not dent myself too badly on the tongue of the PU, though I ve walked into that a few times too.

Ron[font=" comic sans ms" ]I ve been very lucky so far ~ hope I don t jinx myself by adding to this thread! [&:]

We pull the hitch out when we are at home ~ it sticks out quite a bit and that  burb is long enough as it is!  Earlier this year I discovered that the chirren thought it great fun to stuff the receiver with the corn we buy to feed the critters in our yard!  [: (][:D]  Hard to get all those little pieces out!!  RonI think Ron was talking about putting the coffee can over the coupler on the Coleman camper, not over the receiver on the TV.

I am convinced that there is a magnetic connection between the legs of my children s jeans and the greasy ball hitch.  [:@]

[font=" Times New Roman" ]The last time we returned from towing, I remembered to remove the receiver so I didn t whack my shin as the TV sat in the garage.  But when I bent over to unlock the pin, I creased my head on the slightly-ajar rear door.  When I backed up in silent pain, I rammed my calf into the PU coupler behind me.  Not huge pain, not debilitating pain.  But enough to distract my peepers from seeing the Big Wheel-type plastic trike in the driveway.  Down I go, and end up in the river rock-covered flower bed.  Lying there, looking up at the clear blue sky, three things crossed my mind:
 ~ Ouch!
~ Please tell me no one saw that.
~ Maybe if I just leave the hitch receiver in, DW will notice it and remove it.
