whitestar505I can tell already that this is going to be a popular thread!

We feel guilty if we DON T do something, but it s such a rush to get to the CG on Friday nights (get off work at 5, rush home in non-rush hour traffic, change, pack the perishables, don t forget the dog!) and hurry to get there before the gates close or we annoy the neighbors with setup...I would really prefer to lay around all weekend until it s time to hurry up and go home to start the week all over again!

We generally try to get the lay of the land, though, and take in as many sights as we can as long as the weather is good.  We hurry back to the CG for happy hour (starts around 2pm on weekends, right?)

MtnCamper

whitestar505My favorite place, or style involves a good book, a comfortable chair, and a beverage of some sort. Sitting by the River, and losing track of time!

whitestar505For us it depends on where we are & what we have planned.  I enjoy at least a little sitting around time.  Usually we are on the go - either sightseeing if we re on vacation or bicycling.  But sometimes there s nothing better than fresh air, a comfy chair & a good book.[:D]

 So - we do both.

whitestar505My dream is to sit around and do nothing, but with three young girls we re usually on the go.  Unless it is raining, we have convenced them you can t do anything in the rain[;)], that gets us a little down time.

At the beach, we are at the beach/pool in the morning, then back to camper for lunch and a little nap, in the afternoon to the opposite of what we did that morning until supper.  If we are staying a week, two or three nights we will leave the campground and do other things.

Foxyladies

whitestar505I m for relaxing.....I just became a seasonal and I ve yet to rest. With all this " friging rain.....and family gatherings.....I just can t stand it.  I go up there more during the week to plant, fix, put up stuff that I bought. I was already to go this weekend but another rain out....[:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@]

whitestar505I m in the " I do both, depending on the trip"  crowd.  Sometimes it s nice to just kick back and relax; enjoying the company of those I m camping with.  Other times I m checking out the area or looking for an out of the way antique shop to putter around in.

whitestar505we usually pick a campground that is close to out side activities, and go out for a day or two plus use the campgrounds activities to fill in the gaps.. I could not just hang out all day at the campground, but I have seen it, they pop up pull out a chair and sit ........I can do that at home if I wanted to . Maybe some just have more stressful jobs and enjoy just hanging out. but with 2 kids they get kinda bored after a while so we use it more as a base camp....

Zooey

cycloneWe very rarely stay at the CG.  We usually go out and come back in time to make dinner.  We don t go to CG s with family amenities - usually only State Parks, so there are usually things to do in the area.  Even if there isn t much around, we ll spend the day on the trails or near the water (lake, river, etc.).

It s usually raining, so we don t have much of a choice but to drive around to find something to do...[: (]

cycloneWe typically stay within the camp grounds.  My daughter and friend ride bikes or go the pool.  My wife and I stay close to home base, taking occassional walks.  After a long stressful week at work, we get set up and relax on Friday night and Saturday, only to pack up on Sunday to get ready for another week.  We will make 2 trips this year, one for 10 days and one for 7 days, and I would imagine we will venture out of the campground.

whitestar505Chalk another one up for it depends. If we are on vacation we are rarely at our site except for morning and late evenings. More often than not we get a late start (yes Kelly! we start late all the time!) and  a late dinner.

But if we go for 2 or 3 nights to one of a few different spots we enjoy,we hang out and relax, hike and enjoy our surroundings. (usually by day 3 I m itching to go someplace) There are times it feels real good not getting back in the van till it s time to go home.

Giffster

whitestar505Being a " homebody" , I usually hang around the cg and watch the trees grow.  Take the dog for a walk down trails, etc.  I don t like straying too far from my cooler!  Seems the beer and food always taste better while camping.

 Cheers

George

whitestar505We ll tell you after the maiden voyage this weekend...  When we tented, we usually stayed in the park - though this weekend is supposed to be all rain so we might explore other things in the area (we ll be about 40 min from home).

QuoteI guess we re the unusual ones. We usually go and just relax. Sit around and enjoy the outdoors. Living in the city and running constantly with the DD s over the past years, we just enjoy sitting and relaxing.

That s me.  Give me the woods, my two dogs and a good book and I can stay at the CG all day long.  I too run hard all week long and just to work on food and shelter makes time stand still for me.  5 A.M. walks in the woods when everyone is sleeping is also the best time to listen to what s not there.  I.E. traffic, phones, airplanes, sirens, etc.  It s unbeleivable waht one can hear early in the morning.

Now my DW is the opposite.  She wants to.......................

Quotesetup a camp site and then kind of use it as a base camp for going, seeing and doing in the local area.
AND SHOPPING.

ShirleyT

cycloneNot sure how to answer this question. We always have to make trips onto Muskogee to shop and also to Eufaula and Checotah. I would prefer to sit and relax at the campsite but the slave driver aunt won t allow it! [:@]

When my daughter and I go down alone, WE RELAX.

When the rest of the family is there, WE WORK AND RUN FROM HERE TO THERE!
