I went on one of my unplanned camping trips last week, stayed the whole week. [:D]. While I was there a building crew showed up at the lot below mine. It was the same crew leader that built mine, just a new crew. I was chatting with James (the crew leader) and told him the new owners didn t have electric and didn t he need electric for building. He looked shocked and said " yes I do" . I teased him about using my electric if he would build me a porch. [;)]

After two phone calls and a trip back to the company the crew was ready go get started on the building. James said the company would reimburse me for my electric service if I would let them use it. I of course agreed. [:)] (I love to watch things being built).

Throughout the day the crew teased me about the porch that was being put on the new building, good heartedly of course. And I in return teased them that I would pull the plug. [8D] I did get two of the guys to come brace my DD s loft that had begun to sag. It is in great shape now. [:D]

In the early afternoon one crew member came over and said " Boss says you need a good set of steps" . I of course was delighted and said " well that is a start, I can always build a deck at the bottom of the steps. Orginally I wanted to start with a porch about 4 feet out from the cabin and all the way across which is 10 feet. But I wasn t going to look a gift horse in the mouth. The guy told me it would be the next day before they could get to the steps. I said that was fine.

Later in the afternoon the guy came back. He said " boss said you need a little porch and steps, so I guess you get porch and steps" . Of course I was totally thrilled!! I ran and told my aunt and cousin about how I was going to get a little porch and some decent steps.

Next day.....the crew member comes over and says " well I got some bad news"  [:@]... I teased him and threatened to pull the plug again [8D].  He said " well we wanted to build you a porch like you wanted but we dont have enough scraps to cover it. But you do have two choices...you can either have a little porch and some steps or we can frame out the porch you want and build some steps and put down some plywood right in front of the door to the steps for now and you can finish it yourself" . Of course I chose the latter of the choices. [:D]

The owner of the lot below finally showed up and came over to thank me for letting the crew use my electric. He offered me $40. I told him it had been taken care of but he insisted. He started talking about the deck he was going to build. I made a deal for him to just get me $40 worth of deck board and he agreed!! [:D]

So......when I get back to the lake before the 4th of July I should have some deck board waiting on me and can start on getting my porch done!! I still want a good size deck but at least for now I will have a porch and NON-wobbly steps!!

It definately pays to be nice to people! [:D][:D][:D]

ShirleyTWay to go.  The bartering system is a great way to get things done.[:)]

wahooncI painted what I could reach from the ground! Going to have to get someone else to paint the rest since I am afraid of heights! When I go down for the 4th I will take pictures and post them.

I did make a sign for my cabin " Ladybug Cabin"  and then a heart under it with our names on it!

ShirleyTSee, this is what I m always trying to tell you guys about how we are nothing without each other.  (well, it s a bit more complex than that, our Native culture teaches us that individuals would not be nearly as strong as those who bond with the community and depend on each other for various strengths and skills.)   That s how I see this group, as an extended family there for one another.

 ShirleyTShirley,
My brain just returned from vacation[8D][:D] Could you use a roller on a lo-o-o-ong handle to paint the part of the cabin you can t reach from the ground? Just an idea[:)]

 Aaron[:)]

ShirleyT

wahooncI used a roller on a handle to reach what I could. To get the top on the south side of the cabin I would need a really long handle and it would have to curve [:D]. I am determined to get that cabin painted somehow!

ShirleyTHow about a bunch of paintballs[:D] or maybe a couple of " paint"  ballons and a launcher[8D]?
