tlhdocWelcome gia. So glad you can join us. This is turning out to be quite a gathering.

 tlhdocHey all!

Do you guys realize that we have almost ALL of Loop 6 reserved for this
trip?!?!  What a gathering this is turning out to be...  I think this is our
biggest turnout so far.  I hope the new Loop 6 bathhouse they were putting
in last fall is all done, or we ll all be in trouble!!  [:)]

Tracy - any word on T-shirts??  I would look forward to having some made up
for this rally.  Whoever did the last ones for Hickory Run did an excellent
job.  Please let me know.  The bear picture on the last shirts " fit"  with
the Hickory Run Bears we all saw, so maybe a picture of something from North
Lake s history would be appropriate.  A picture of the old Catskill Mountain
House, or maybe one of Rip Van Winkle...  legend has it that the mountains
around North Lake are where he took his 20 year nap.  [8D]  I have several
pics of the Mountain House if you should need some.

Also, my GPS had a little " accident" ....  if I don t get a new one by the
time we go to North Lake, I ll head up there the weekend before to find the
plane crash the old fashioned way (just hiking for it) so no one is
disappointed.  If anyone else coming has a working GPS, I have the
coordinates of the plane crash saved so maybe we can do it that way.

Well I am totally looking forward to this trip.  I am tired of the cold.  We
might do a quickie trip to Florida late Feb / early March just to get warm.
 Talk to you all soon!

tlhdoc

 tlhdocHi Rick,

Getting a little cabin fever?  Going south to get warm.  I hope you are planning on taking the Taos with you.  It might like the warmer weather too.[:D]

I know that a person going on the trip has a GPS and they will be bringing it.

It wouldn t be any problem doing tee shirts again.  I will make a poll to see if there is enough intrest in shirts.  As far as a design I think you should pick it.  This is your trip.  I was thinking we should have a COTOC logo and then on each trip have a picture special for that trip.  It may cost a little more to do that but it might be neat.

In May I wonder how full the park gets.  It can still be cold that early.  Maybe we will have the whole park to ourselves.  I sort of feel sorry for someone that ends up right in the middle of us, but then again they may have a good time.  We could invite them to join us.[&:]

PI

 copcarguyRick.
If you re going to Fl. I hope it is southern Fl. From what I ve been hearing, it has been pretty cold by Daytona and Orlando. I am also tired of this stuff. My camper still has about 10 inches of snow on it. We are really looking forward to this trip but have not figured out what we are bringing yet. Richs  birthday is Tues. so I just ordered another DO a smaller one and the thingy to remove the cover. He asked for one! I want to find a good DO cookbook too. Not too fancy just basic cooking.

DiW

 tlhdocRick,
Chris and I went to the RV show in Edison last week and North-South Lake rangers (if they re called that) were there. I told them when our group was coming and they said we d be there early in the season. Wanted to know if we were " loud" .

I mentioned wanting to find the plane crash site, and they said there were actually 4 plane crash sites, although one barely had remains. I think one was down a cliff or something so forget that one. Guess the 3rd is the one we re looking for. The 4th site sits right on one of the trails. Was told we couldn t miss it. I would think we could find out more once we get there.
 Di

tlhdoc

tlhdocDi what did you say about us being loud?[:D]

copcarguy

 tlhdocHello again everyone!

tlhdoc:  I noticed on your first post when you listed everyone s site that Suzone is on 197.  Is this correct??  If it is, she is WAAAY far away on the other side of the park.  For some reason, I seem to remember that we all were in the same " neighborhood" ...
I am looking forward to having T-shirts made - I ll look for you on the IM and maybe we can come up with a cool design or something.

DiW:  I am jealous that you actually saw a " North Lake Park Ranger"  (yes, they are Rangers) somewhere other than North Lake.  I have never seen them promoting the CG anywhere.  I wonder if they ll be at the Rockland show coming up in Feb.  Will you guys be going to that one too??  I believe that you are closer to RCC than I am...
As far as the plane wrecks, I do have the GPS coordinates for three of them.  One is on a cliff and just not safe to get to.  The other is just 5 gazillion little pieces spread out all over the place.  The one I thought would be appropriate for COTOC (read: kids involved) is the one right next to the trail, and you can still see it s a little plane, minus the engine.  (The State Police removed it for the crash investigation)
I wonder why they asked you if we were a loud group...  Did you & Chris have on Hawaiian shirts or something?  Were you polite to them??  Hmmm[8D]  But you know what??  If we want to be loud we will just be bothering - US!!  We have ALL the sites reserved.  WE ROCK!!  I plan to be really rowdy and have an actual working WOOD fire complete with embers.  Yes, Stephie & I will be livin  on the edge with our WOOD fire!  No charcoal for us, thank you very much!  [&:]
We ARE going early in the season, the CG opens the weekend before our little rally.

PI:  Happy Birthday - will you guys also be daring and have an actual wood fire at North Lake??  (for those of you not getting this wood fire inside joke, click on my webshots link and look under the " 2002  PUT Rally"  section)

All other COTOC-ians:  Would anyone like me to bring my " baby"  1350 watt Coleman Powermate generator??  I see that a few people are not too keen on dry camping and it s great for topping off your batteries or running hair-dryers.  The bathhouse has electricity, but it s for those certain people that MUST have their hair done before exiting the PU in the morning.  (Maybe I should not post that last sentence) [8D]  Well I have typed a book here - see you all soon!

SheBantam

tlhdocThis post appeared in another website. Am pasting it over here. It seems that there are 2 venues for COTOCPUC nowHi again

Since I can t post on PUT, I will respond here re: the trip to N-S Lake State Park.

I vote YES on the T-shirts -- will advise # needed, size XL in any case. So far, it s a definite for Scott and me to go. Not sure about the SO, and other sons.

Since my sister is stealing my nacho meat dip recipe for the pot luck dinner, I will have to give some thought as to what my contribution will be.

I will definitely do a big pan of baked beans at least and I ll try to come up with something a bit more unique as well.

If anyone knows the trick to posting on PUT, I d appreciate it. Everytime I tried to post a reply, it just bounced me back to the home page

tlhdocThanks to Shebantam for transferring my post; for some reason today (from work) I m able to reply, whereas I could not from home (go figure).

Ok, my sis (Kathybrj) has graciously allowed me to make my nacho meat dip, she will make something else (and post her selection here, I m sure).

Copcar:  your photos were wonderful !! It sold me for sure and I hope, from looking at the map, that site I reserved (180) is as nice as the one you took photos of.   By all means, bring the generator !!!  I am camping in the PU for the very first time, so I have no opinion (as yet) of dry vs hook up.  I do have the furnace, marine battery and fuel tank -- which will all be at optimum operation assumably, but hey, you never know.  I won t bother with " doing my hair"  -- my general uniform while camping is a baseball cap and baggy, comfy clothes, so I specifically DON T have to lug hairdryer, curling iron, hairspray, etc. (thank god for that break from routine).

I also have GPS capability with my sprint cell phone, but danged if I know how it works!  I ll bring it anyway just in case it might come in handy.

DiW:  What DID you answer about the " loud"  question?   LOL, I don t blast music, but I laugh alot and my voice does tend to carry.....hope that doesn t spook the rangers too much.

Tlhdoc:  I see you edited the list and changed Suzone from 197 to 179 -- I had asked the same question as to why she was in a different loop.  Glad to see she s not.

I am psyched for this trip -- my maiden voyage.  So be prepared for lots of questions from this newbie.

I noticed though that the pavillion (which looks to be very close to our sites) is a " rental"  type of deal.  Has anyone booked it for the pot luck dinner or are we going to " wing"  it?

Is everyone bringing bikes or planning on a hike (I m not sure I m following the plane crash references)?

tlhdocRick, thanks for setting me straight on the site number.  My fingers typed in the wrong order.

Gia, I am glad you could make it in here today.  What is the fuel tank you are talking about?

Paula, thanks for posting Gia s info.

PI, Happy Birthday[:D], are you going to tell us how many?

Di, still waiting to hear what you said.

kathybrj

tlhdocTracy, she s talking about her propane tank.

I guess we re going to have to teach her the " lingo" ! [:D]

DiW

tlhdocHey guys, the rangers were probably just wondering what we had in mind when they heard how large our group is. (Remember all those annoying groups on holiday weekends that you were stuck near - guess he was worried we d be like them). I assured the rangers we weren t really loud, just a happy bunch. Think I won them over when I explained we planned to hike to a plane crash site. Guess we didn t sound like " party"  types.

As for the pavilion for a potluck, can we use it? If so, do you know the cost? If not, should we chip in and rent an extra site for Sat night? Tracy and Rick, do you remember the group behind Tracy and me at Hickory Run. They had a bunch of sites and reserved the site in the middle of their group for cooking. They had all their meals there. Remember them singing? Don t know what that was all about. Not sure if NY state parks let you do that but it might be cheaper. Could have a group campfire there, just have everyone bring a chair. I can bring a tarp to string up.

PI, Happy Birthday[:D], are you going to tell us how many?

 Tlhdoc,
Thanks, but it is my DH birthday next Tues. He will be 54. I haven t hit the big 50 yet but it is coming. My Birthday was in Oct.
Thank you anyway for the birthday wish. I ordered him a DO but instead of ordering through the Lodge, I ordered it through a web site that sells The Lodge dutch ovens. They said they are waiting for a shipment from Lodge and that they can ship it out in a week or 2. It is more too. I guess I should cancel the order but I already put everything through. I guess I ll just leave it and give him a picture.

tlhdoc

tlhdocIn PA State Parks you can use a pavilion for free if it isn t rented ahead of time.  I wonder if NY is the same.  I doubt if there will be many people there that early in the season.

On the last trip to Hickory Run we all ended up on my site (I put a big tarp up, it was raining of course).  If we can t get the pavilion we could see who has the best site and if it is OK with them move the party there.

tlhdocDiw:  Re the pavillion, I don t know the cost I just saw a comment about it on copcar s campsite map.  Renting another nearby site would work, but as far as I recall no individual can rent 2 sites via RA-- when I camp with the kids and they bring friends, I rent one site and SO rents the other and we just kind of spread out. I also have spare tarps which I will pack " just in case" .

Tlhdoc:  you may be right about them letting us use it at no charge if the campsite is lightly populated....as far as picking the best site to congregate, I d have no problem with that either.

Sorry about the " fuel tank"  slip, but since propane fuels the furnace I just naturally called it a fuel tank....so much to learn, so little time [:(]
