birolThe fabric on the Starcraft will make you turn your head.[&:]  Are these located near you?  The price seams low enough, are you going to check them out?  Keep us posted.

birol

birolWhat do you mean by that ? Does it look bad ? It looked ok to me in the pictures, but hey what do I know. Yes I will check them both tomorrow [:D]

 Birol,
He is talking about the tacky color of the canvas.  The STRIPS.  We aren t used to seeing that here.  But, it is all what you like.   I have to agree with Fla Camper, the Shasta looks good.  Good luck with your choice.

birol

Mahaffey-FamilyAhhh, I see, I also said eeeek when I saw thr stripes but, oh well, only 500 bucks, tomorrow we will check them out ......

Turn Key

birolIf they check out as solid and water-tight, can t see how you can go far wrong at that price.  All else being equal, I think I d go for the Shasta.

 birolBirol,
Buy both! that way you have a spare![8D] Actually those are good prices...I forgot to look is that CDN or USD? Either way if they are in decent shape that is not bad at all. I think I would want the Shasta but that Starcraft is pretty neat too.

birolBirol, I agree with the others--a SOUND popup for 500 is a good deal--just be really sure it does not have canvas or floor rot and check out the SIDEWALLS  of the tires for cracks.  You wont care about the  canvas stripe and neither will your family or friends just so the thing doesnt leak or the beds collapse or the tires blow out in the first 100 miles

We ll all be waiting to hear how they look in person[:)]

birolyeah yeah yeah birol, get the striped one [:D]

that way, we`ll all know who ya are when we`re walkin` to the potty heheheh[8D]

birolI will take pics tomorrow and post it for you guys to see and evaluate them for me please. I am sure Campkins will be closed .... so I can take many pictures ...

birolBirol, check the wood on the roof and around the top in particular, especially around the edges and along center roof seems. Just keep pressing your fore finger poking away at it here and there, if you find a soft spot you ve found a problem! If everything is good and solid, or only some minor soft spots you re probably going to be ok.

Also, using your nose will quickly clue you in, if you smell mildew at all, then you better look extremely hard at it. [: (] Mildew could be just from someone putting it away with wet canvas, or it could mean a leak, but it ll be up to you to figure out which one!

They both look pretty basic, but the Shasta looks like the better of the two. But we all know looks can be deceiving, so check them both carefully. If you re talking $500 CDN, then it sounds like a great price (actually good price CDN or US)....

birolBirol the price is right for a starter PU.  The Shasta has a stove, sink and ice box, the Starcraft is much older and only has an ice box.  Check everything out before you decide.  Craw under the trailers and look at the wood.  Check that the plumbing and gas lines work.  Good luck and maybe you will be a PU owner sooner that you think.  IF they are not in good shape, DON T get them.  You will find a PU sooner or later.

birolif  you get the starcraft one, you won t have trouble finding it  at the next rally![8D] which one is newer? or has less problems ?  the table looks warped in the shasta! and a good set of sheets cover the brown plaid

birolI bought a used 78 starcraft for $750.00 as my first pop up. I used it for two years before the roof just fell apart. I think I got my money worth out of it. We took several nice trips one to Maine and one to Myrtle beach plus several weekend trips. However it seemed like every time I went out something broke on it. Flat tires  broken roof cables, lights not working. We went out and bought a pop up that had been used 4 times for $5000.00.  I had to get a loan to pay for it,however I had it paid off within a year because I do not like paying interest for"  luxury"  items. If I had to do it over again I would have bought new or slightly used the first time and probably got a better pop up.
