 birolbirol,

For the kind of money you will be spending on the trailer you might think about getting a large new tent with all the necessities to go along with it. Just another option in mind.[:)] Good Luck, Good Camping!

Already have a tent big enough for the for of us, I want a PU so that it can carry some of the stuff, and I wouldn t have to carry the tent and all the tarps and no pegs. The way we came, the back of the minivan was filled close to dangereously.

I take it, none of them are worth purchasing in your opinion ?

You take it wrong. I can not see them in person to judge them. 500$ is not bad. They look nice. I do not know what to tell you. Whatever you decided , make sure YOU are happy. [;)]

Did not know you had a tent already.

birolI m wondering if the striped canvas on the Starcraft may indicate that the canvas has been replaced recently?   It almost looks as if someone just ran a long length of canvas down the length of the bunks, and fastened it somehow.    In that case, there could be more water damage somewhere else.   The Shasta has yukky looking uphostery, but you can cover that with your bedding.
Our first camper was an old Palomino that looked just like that, smelled bad, oooooh it was awful.  But it was also very cheap, same range as those you re looking at, and we were able to make enough low cost repairs to keep us camping for about two years with it, and take some really fun trips.   We sold it to a young couple with kids, showed them all the leaky places and advised them to invest in a big tarp to cover the whole thing with if there was a threat of rain.  (it was ok on sunny days)  In the meantime, we used the experiences with that camper to help us to determine what features would be the most important to us in the next camper.   It provided us with a very low cost  on the spot  learning experience.

birolThe Starcraft is EXACTLY like the Starcraft camper my dad had in the 1960s.  It had the stripped canvas, squarish bunk ends and now zip open window at the end of the bunk.  And there was NO WAY it would sleep 6.

I d consider the other one but not the Starcraft.

birolBirol, looks like the dealers trying to get rid of trade in s that aren t worth his time/money bringing up to his resale standards, so he s " wholesaling"  them off on EBay.
Doesn t mean there not a good deal, you have to look at these closely that all.

birolShasta is gone, and the other one is in horrible shape, torn canvas, hole in the roof, rusted wheels ...... and small , we will be better off with MOAT. I still took some pictures of another one, a flagstaff but even that one was in bad shape. Will post them later today ...

 mike4947Birol,
Check out rvtraderonline.com. This is where we found our used popup from an owner as opposed to a dealer. Keep checking, something will come up.

mike4947We are going to go and wask the price of the flagsatff anyways .....ON the way back we also checked the Jayco dealer, yum yum PU" s and their Hybrids, I was drooling all the way back home.

 birolBirol-
Just wanted to say that I only paid $575 American Buckaroos for my PopUp & I am happy with it.  I sort of view it as my tent on wheels, & do all my cooking, etc. outside.  The canvas was good, roof & floor were sound.  So a good PopUp can be had for less than $1000.

 mike4947HA ! I am so upset ! HA !

We went to a PU dealer on the way back from Campkins where we checked the flagstaff (which had mildew or something, icky black something around the corner of the roof, inside, and all four roof brackets were broken) and this guy says a 2001 used Viking 2460 with shower/toilet is 9000 bucks ! [: (][: (][: (] Last year a flagstaff with shower toilet which was brand new was 9,000 !   Anyways .... I am penniless and can t afford anything so we will keep dreaming as if we can actually buy something [:D] MOAT will be more than enough in these tight times ....

**EDIT**  I can not believe I typed all that and never saw page 2!! [:@]

Briol.. how hard is it for you to get one into Canada from the US??? My pop-up may be up for sale come the end of the year for about $1000.. and is in a heck of a lot better shape than those two.. I will echo some comments here.. Just because they are old don t mean they are bad.. BUT look closely at them. Electrical is a snap to rewire if you know how and pretty cheap all in all. Mae sure the floor is solid around the 4 roof posts and try to see if the roof itseld is good. I say bugger about the tires.. Figure on buying new ones anyway, you normaly only get two or three years out of them.  also forget about the ice box, they realy are useless.. I used mine only the first year, it ate so much ice and was so hard to get to. Buy a good Coleman Xtream cooler and think what to put in it s place like a porta-potty..  A stove is nice at times, but 99% of the time we cook on a grille stove outside (In fact, my propane has been on the same tank for 3 years now.. it is not even OPD compliant)

You have 2 way of looking at them.. I think the Starcraft quailty will make that one the one in better condtion, and the canvas does seem to be ugly as heck but newer.. The Shasta is kinda a no name (low end) brand and looks to be in fair condtion overall.. But does seem to have more potential.. If you covered the bunkend colors, the wood looks kinda newish.. and the style in whole is currant and I bet would scrub up nicely..

Price is the same.. try to pick the best built / best shape and forget about the options in it.. neither of them have point winning options..
