We test drove a  01 f150 supercrew, today, to replace our Odyssey until the lease is up on our Outback.  The truck had the 4.6 motor and ran terrible.  Much stuttering during acceleration and also no blinkers.  The salesman talked to his manager and stated that the f150 s are known for having a problem with the " coil pack" , and that they could change this and it would be good to go.
My question-- Has anyone experienced problems with the " coil pack"  or is the saleman blowing smoke up my @$$?  I admit no knowledge of mechanical things but am hesitant to spend $21000 on a truck that I think may have an electrical problem(stutters, no turn signals).  Another dealer 20 miles further away has three  02 Supercrews on lot, so dw and I are going to check out tomorrow PM.

I would appreciate any input into the Supercrews and any problems to look for
 Thanks

farmerFarmer, Brian says that they don t have a coil pack.  There is one coil per spark plug.  He says it sounds like either a computer problem or a bunch of messed up sensors.

Is this a new or used truck?  I would think used since it has problems, and maybe because of the year model.

I would check the other dealership.  We love our F-150 Supercrew and have not, knock on wood, had a days problem out of it since we bought it.

farmerSounds to me like trouble waiting to get sold to the first sucker. For that kind of money it better run and run good! FWIW my 97 F-150 with the 4.2 V-6 has over 200,000 miles on it and still runs great, yes it is showing its age in its love for new parts every now and again.[&:] Also $21K sounds steep to me. We bought a  03 super cab Lariat back in December for just a shade over $22k, it listed for $28k+ Check the rebates! Ford is trying to move the  03 models before the newer  04 s come out.

I am in line for a new company truck soon, the Super Crews look like they just might fill the bill[:D]

farmerRUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  There is something wrong with a dealer willing to show a vehicle that is having problems.  Even if you feel that the truck would be the " perfect"  truck if it were repaired there is always another truck out there for you!  I know you are looking for info more directed to the coil pack but either way it goes I would move on.  Sorry if that s not what you wanted to hear!

 farmerThanks for the input folks.
I was trying to do business with the small local delaer because the former owner was a good family friend for many years.  Unfortunatley, since the place is under new management it has gone downhill.  I will be making a comment in passing to our family friend about how much things have changed, and not for the better. It is quite poor for business to put a poorly running truck on the lot for a test drive.
We will be going to a different dealer to look at other used Supercrews.
