I have a port a pottie and I was wondering on a couple of things.

When you put in the chemicals, whether its liquid or packets........how much water do you put in it? It says on the packet to put alittle but what is alittle?

Also, when I have to empty it, it has this white button that your suppose to push when you dump....is this how everyone else s is.....I find the first time you try to empty it, it goes real fast but after that I have to at least keep turning it over about 10 to 20 times. Is this normal?

When I was camping this weekend, it emptyed fast the first time but then I evently had to go to the dump station to finish it and made sure I put plenty of water in it to flush it out. Any info is appreciated[:D]

FoxyladiesI put in about a cup of water with the chemical.  Usually after it is emptied.  As for the little white button, that s to allow some air in when you turn it over to empty it.  But be carefull, I have pushed the button too soon and had waste water come out of it[: (]

FoxyladiesWe use the liquid, and just add maybe 1/10 of the bottle. Because your working with a holding tanks about 3 gals(?). Instead of 30 gals.  So it s just a dribble. Then a couple cups of water. Works for us. But any heavy duty potty work goes to the campground bathroom or outhouse.[;)]

FoxyladiesI use 4oz. of the liquid (that is what the bottle says) and then cover the bottom of the tank with water.  Just enough to we the bottom.  The button lets air in so that the potty will dump smoothly.  I usually rinse mine 2 or 3 times and shake the water around before I dump it.

FoxyladiesI think I wasn t putting enough water in the bottom or else we had way too much toilet paper in it. My granddaughter was using the pottie by herself so who knows how much toilet paper was being used. This was the first time that I had a problem emptying it out. It seemed like big globs of paper was being stuck in there. I thought I had it all out then all of a sudden here came a glob. This was the first time I had used this particular brand of " odorless chemicals"  when my granddaughter was here.

I have another question.......how long do you keep your port a pottie with the chemicals in it after just doing urine at night only? especially if your there a week. I find that I m the only one using it so I don t change it every weekend.....maybe thats the problem. With thetford products, I never had a problem. Sorry if I m grossing anyone out.[&:]

FoxyladiesI have the larger Thetford and there has never been a problem since it usually gets emptied after about 3 or 4 days of night use only.  Maybe you need to empty more often and that would solve your problem, especially if small children put in lots of paper.

FoxyladiesAre you using regular toilet paper or camper toilet paper?  If you use the regular you may have to use more chemical to get the paper to break down.  If it sits for a week or two the chemical should break the paper all the way down.  It will not hurt to leave it sit for a week or two.

FoxyladiesHope I don t scare anybody, but....

After a weekend trip of dry camping, I forgot to empty the potty for somewhere around a month, but I can t remember for sure. When I finally remembered, I was dreading emptying it, but knew there were chemicals in it that might help. Sure enough, it was just like I had emptied it immediately after the trip. But I still want to empty it ASAP.

Might want to tell your DGD to use toilet paper, but only what is necessary.
