Hi everyone-

Maybe you already know this but right now there's a statewide fire ban in effect. We were at Agua Caliente in Anza Borrego State Park. This is a San Diego county campground. We were disappointed to hear of the fire ban, especially since we had a ton of firewood along for this trip. Rangers said it was statewide. So before you pack up for the rally you might want to check.

Sorry, this is me, Hollypop. And we were just camping this weekend. Just got back today.

Quote from: oldmooseRich, I was planning on going down 23 to 126 and west from Fillmore. I hate backtracking. What time are you planning on leaving? I have a Dr's appt. in the morning and was planning on leaving about 11:30.

Lori, I would recommend avaioding the 101 and go straight up the 5 to 126.
Bill,
I'm not leaving until after work - probably around the time everyone will be eating at the Mexican restaurant  . Are you taking Balcom Cyn? Is that OK with a trailer?

Quote from: griffsmomJust curious--which freeway route would be the easier or better way for us Southerners to go: the 5N to the 126W, or the 5N to the 101N to the 126E?

I-5 to 126 definitely.

You get to the decision point just past Dodger Stadium.

On the I-5, it is free sailing once you get past Burbank.

On the 101, your troubles are just starting as soon as you get into Burbank and don't stop until around Kanan Road.

To compare Grimes Canyon (23) with Balcolm Canyon is a comparison in why they use switchbacks on trails.

Grimes Canyon has an easy climb to the summit, then curves down three switchbacks to move gradually to the bottom.

Balcolm Canyon has a well-hidden steep grade to the summit, then plummets down steeply with only one 90-degree right hand turn.

Both are doable...I would do Grimes Canyon. 10,000 quarry trucks can't be wrong.   :D

Thanks Scott. I forgot that the 23 was Grimes Cyn. and not Balcom. Sounds like we'll go the way Moose is going. See you Friday!

griffsmom

Dave has a court appearance on Friday morning, so I'll probably put Griffy in school for the morning and then we'll leave sometime around noon.  If traffic is cooperative, we should be there mid-afternoonish.

Only 3 more days! (not counting today) :D

Quote from: OC CampersSorry guys but we are going to have to cancel. I just can't make it work. Everytime I tackle one problem, another one pops up.
Jacqui, it's another day.  Has that darn problem gone away yet?  It won't be the same without you.  Don't let backing in and popping up/down keep you away, as you'll have plenty of help.  Mike would probably relish the chance to back up a PU once again to see if he can still do it, LOL!

oldmoose

Yup, Grimes Cyn it is and we've done it a couple of times with no problem. Just drop down a couple of gears and enjoy. Turn left on the 126 at the light in Fillmore. Jacqui, if backing and setting up is the problem, come anyway as everyone will help.

Its getting closer!! 3 more days.Kara keeps singing "we're going camping"

I just got off the phone with a lady at Far West and she said the Fire Dept HAS NOT told them they cannot have campfires. they just have be in the fire ring.

Yes, confirming 4 for dinner on Friday 6 PM is perfect

No for Sat AM..you know I can't get my act together that early

not sure what I'll bring for Sat. Potluck. trying to decide between Lasagna,
mashed tators & gravy or all meat chili.

thanks for mentioning the hook-ups I would have left the tote in the garage (been so long since I used it).

Thanks for directions, I was thinking on the 5 to the 126.  the  101 stinks anytime of the day.

we will be leaving OC around 11:30. I have a Chiro appt. at 10:30

Heya Dee, would it help you decide if I say we're bringing chili?  Mike's in the mood to make it.

YES YES..I was in the mood for it, but have never made it..I'll leave it to the pro.

maybe I'll bring some of both....AAAAAAAGH I just can't decide

OC Campers

I wish it was that simple.  I was actually looking forward to trying to back it in.  Randy informed me yesterday AM that he had managers meetings in Santa Fe Springs on Thursday and Friday and couldn't come home to hook up the trailer for me (friday morning). I can set it up, I can tow it, but I can't hook it up. (huge frowning face goes here!!).  I thought about having him hook it up on Thursday night but I don't have a place to park something that long and I have to work Frinday morning so I would end up towing it all over town.  I just can't figure out a way to make it work. (sad smiley face goes here).

Plus, I just checked the soccer game schedule and Chris' end of the season party is the same time as Kendra's game on Saturday.  This just keeps getting worse!!

OC Campers

I was thinking (un oh watch out).  Maybe the kids and I will drive out for the potluck and campfire festivities.  I could probably be on the road by 3pm.   I could either pitch a tent or go spend the night at my mom's in Newbury Park?  What do you think?  It won't be the same as popping up but I could still be there.

If nobody takes my site, could I pitch a tent on it?  Would Far West allow a tent in an RV site?
