If nobody takes my site, could I pitch a tent on it? Would Far West allow a tent in an RV site?

D#$*^*, Jacqui, my heart was aching reading your post, as I know exactly what you're talking about re. things cropping up and trying to make everything work out. Been there; done that. I don't know about tents in the RV area, especially since they have a separate tenting area. Perhaps you could call them this afternoon to ask: (805)933-3200. The upset desperation in your voice just might work!
   
 Or I wonder if they could release your site in Cedar and put your $36 towards a tent site? Might be too cold at night to tent without a heater, though.

Duh me, but until I looked up the rate sheet for Jacqui possibly tenting, I hadn't noticed that there's a $1/day charge for dogs.  Guess I should have posted that and had you dog folks add the additional $2 to your checks.
 
 Please post your canine companions here so I know how many are coming, and we'll add them to the big check we pay to Far West, and y'all can just give us the $2.  (Hey, sounds like our Friday dinner will be covered!)
 
 Off the top of my head, Sammyslave, SimiRich, and Moose have dogs.  It's the folks I haven't yet met whose dog status I don't know.   Post away!

So much to read; so little time.  Well, I have more disappointing news.  I just got an e-mail from Larry (Sammyslave) saying they are not going to able to make it this weekend.  He mentioned that Rita would be calling me tonight, so I'll let you know the final on this after our conversation.  Sometimes the best laid plans just don't work the way we feel they should.  I'm sure Jacqui can attest to this right about now.  For me when things keep cropping up even tho I think I'm pushing past only to have another road block crop up, I start to get the feeling that I'm going in the wrong direction.  

As for the fire ban - I hope there is a ban on all fires.  I have driven in Santa Paula over on South Mountain road and am very upset about what I've seen.  I don't think sitting around a campfire is necessary, even if it does create atmosphere, to have a whole lot of fun without the worry.  The fire came VERY close to a friend's home and she had to evacuate, but luckily, it was stopped in the nick of time.  The only other time I've seen such devastation is when a tornado hit in my hometown of Kalamazoo, Michigan.  
 
And about the potluck... guess what I'm bringing!

Thanks Patricia. I talked to my dad and I think I will stay at their house Saturday night. The kids and I will plan on being there for the potluck though. I might even be able to drag Randy with me. Go ahead and cancel the reservation for us.

I called and they said have not heard anything from the Fire Dept. Our friends lost their home in San Bern. SoCal has suffered a great loss, but it was not caused by a responsible camper enjoying the outdoors.

I was thinking (un oh watch out).  Maybe the kids and I will drive out for the potluck and campfire festivities.  I could probably be on the road by 3pm.   I could either pitch a tent or go spend the night at my mom's in Newbury Park?  What do you think?  It won't be the same as popping up but I could still be there.
