wahooncHmm, Sounds sort of hopeful I would say if they did not outright say forget it. I don t understand what they have to discuss with the dealer though ? I am not sure if the dealer would pitch in anything for this as it seems to be a design issue to me.  Maybe just see if they think somethink you made caused this or just to see what they thionk should be done.

Please keep us informed, My fingers are crossed for you. After all when you want to sell it I might line up for it [8D]

Since the dealer ordered it special that way, he may use the incident to try to convince the dealer that future units should have the standard electric brakes.  He may also use the fact that the dealer ordered it special to convince the dealer to participate in the change, and I am sure he wants to know if the dealer found anything unusual (" Looks like someone took a hack saw to the line." )  He may want to know if the dealer has lelectric brake units on hand, or if he needs to ship them.

There may be any number of other things to discuss.

Good points ....... The Jayco dealer here also orders their 18  Kiwi units with the optional hydraulic brakes, not the default electric ones. When I inquired why, they said, so that people who are just starting an on a budget do  not have to spend money on the controller, wiring etc, and they claimed that it was better and easier to have hyrdaulic brakes anyways.

QuoteWell an update so far,
The dealer sent a delivery driver to my home to pick up the pu. The driver didn t not come w/ a flat bed only a super cab truck. I helped him hitch to his truck & then went to connect the emergency brake cable to the truck, I then made the comment you don t need this since it doesn t have any brakes. He was flabbergasted at my comment b/c no one at the dealership informed him that it didn t have any brakes  . Told him to be careful due to it will surge forward whenever he attempts to stop, he was definetly nervous to pull it  .
I called Jayco & I was sent to some yahoos v/m & left all the info & my rtn phone number to call me, most likely won t hear nada.
I also filed a complaint with the state attorney s office & they have already responded & wanted more information. Well see how it goes day by day & I ll keep all of you informed  .

 Popupsgt:
You should here from Jayco shortly.  I have contacted both customer service and engineering in the past with good results.  Jayco appears to be a company that adheres to there marketing after the sale.  It can take a few days sometimes, but they have aways gotten back to me and been helpful.

Woops.  I missed the second update re: Jayco.

 wahooncOkay update so far.
Jayco called me today, well I left message since I hadn t heard from them for 3 days.  Also I called the dealer & he said Jayco has been calling them everyday about 5 times a day for an update.  From what I understand from Jayco & the dealer, pictures had to be taken of the entire assembly due to admission from Jayco that the entire system was installed incorrectly.
Also Jayco may be looking into a recall for units due to installation error.

So Jayco is not as some have said going to change my braking system from hydraulic to electric brake system.  Jayco s service manager informed me that this system has been used for 30 years & this problem has never happened before.  Anyway Jayco wants to offer me an option for my camper that I currently don t have at this time.  I was asked if I purchased a fully loaded unit and if not is there something like an option that I would like as a part of public relation gift.

So it seems at this time they are bending over backwards for me so I m posing this question what option would you guys want on your camper?  I don t have the furnace but the furnace would take all of my wife s storage space under the sink due to the shower/toilet option had taken the other storage.
I was thinking maybe the deluxe screen room but unsure if anyone really uses theirs and whether it s a waste.  So please give me some inputs on what you would choose to help us with our decision.

Even though the furnace takes up space, if you plan on camping in the fall, heat is nice to have. Especially right after crawling out of the shower on a cold night!

debbiedee1957

wahooncI would say take the screen room.  Screen rooms are so nice!!!! Especially if you would like to sit outside in the evening and not get chewed up [:D]

Since you don t want to take up the space with a heater installed...just get a couple portable ceramic heaters...quieter anyway.

SOOOOOOO happy to hear that you are being taken care of as you should by the dealer and company.

Let s hope this awful chapter will be over soon and you can put it all behind you.
 Happy Camping!

PopupSgtWe re from New England and may be (not sure) just a bit colder than you, but we use our furnace on about 1 in 5 trips.  It doesn t get used much in the summer, but spring & fall weekends can get chilly.  Think furnace = 20% more camping.

We have used our screen room once.  It s a pain to set up and to put away, and we seldom have to deal with enough bugs to warrant it. Think screen room = no bugs, but more work.

wahooncI d try for both -- doesn t hurt to negotiate with all the problems you ve been having.

But if you can only have one, I d opt for the screen room also.  We have a furnace and have used it about w times this year, but the last time, we went back to our ceramic heater from the old PU.  It was quieter and why use our propane, when the electric was free.

We re waiting for the screen room to come in for the Centennials -- they are a special size due to the PU being taller, and Starcraft has been putting all their efforts in to keeping up with the demand for the new PU s.

PopupSgt

 wahooncThanks Austin,

I really want the furnace option but due to the design of the unit the only cabinet space left for the wife is under the kitchen sink where her goods are along with pots & pans as you will see in the layout http://www.jaycorv.com/html/catalog/floorplans.php?prod_id=1&mod_id=18

So guess I m perplexed as to what option to get that is useful & worth the freebie.  The deluxe screen room lookes like the only thing left of not being of cheap value to get next to the furnace.

birol

wahooncGet the deluxe screen room, You can sell it unused if you wish .... Just a thought. I guess your DW ahs a point  with the storage space problem. You can laways use ceramic heaters. I would bet, you will love the add a room !

PopupSgtThe trailer is 14  long.  There should be some available additional storage space somewhere...  It sounds like Jayco is at least making an effort to do the right thing for you.

 Take care.

Jeffrey

wahooncI would definately go for the furnace also.

Screen rooms are OK, but doubt a screen room helps resale value.
 Furnace definately should, in Ohio.

That huge trailer should have enough storage in other places.

We I camp without hookups alot. Really gives you more options of places to go.

PopupSgtGo for the furnace.  You could later buy a screen room if that s your desire, but can you easily install a heater? And the portable heaters only work with hookups, whereas the furnace will work off your propane.  You can make up for lost storage with Sterilite containers, etc.  With that big of a trailer, you should have plenty of storage.  You might want to check out some of the mods other members have made to maximize space.

On a side note, get it in writing from Jayco that if there are any further brake problems they will refund your entire money in full, with no depreciation.  You don t want a repeat of this problem a year from now (God forbid) and be stuck.
