 Firefyter-EmtF-Emt,

I started with bettas as a youngster and as others mentioned moved up to progressively larger tanks.  My current fish habitate is appx 1,000 gallons and only has 5 fishes in it.  But one of them weighs close to 6 pounds [:D].

They are koi and the pond is the first thing you see when you come in the house.  It is in an atrium in the middle of the house.

Firefyter-EmtWhen I was a very little girl, my Dad won me some guppies at a carnival.  We put them in a small bowl.  Then one of them started to have babies, and the other one started to eat the babies.  My Dad couldn t stand for me to cry, so he grabbed a tiny net and started scooping the babies out, putting them into a canning jar.  Pretty soon the babies started having babies, and we had canning jars, vases, and p-nut butter jars all over the house, all full of guppies.  We gave some to everyone we knew, and those had babies, so no matter where we went, there were jars of guppies.  My mom finally talked my grandmother into taking the ones we still had at home, and the first time they had babies, my Grandpa flushed the whole batch down the toilet.  The rest of the family that had all the other guppies said " HuH???"  (insert that sound that Tim Allen makes) and soon there were no guppies anywhere.   The end.

Firefyter-EmtHee.. I should of mentioned I also used to maintain a 20ish gallon tank set up for about 10 years untill it cracked and I never put it back up, then I threw the rest of it out....   To tell you the truth, I get a lot more enjoyment out of the one on my desk where I can peek over and watch them from time to time...

Firefyter-EmtQuite a few years back in my single days, my roomie and I went through an aquarium craze.  We had a 60 gallon in the dining room, 55 gallon in the living room, a 25 gallon in my bedroom and a couple of feeder tanks for guppies and goldfish.  Our favorite fish were Oscars.  They ate like pigs and grew very fast.  We also had Silver Dollars, Gouramis, exotic crabs, a type of fresh water eel, plecosthimus (sp?), etc.   I remember how relaxing it was just sitting back and watching the fish swim around.  It s a great hobby and probably as addicting as pop up camping.  We used to hang out at aquarium stores checking out the fish, etc! Enjoy.

Firefyter-EmtI had goldfish, neon tetras (like yours in the pic), and some others in college. They helped me through some long nights. We had a big funeral for Barney T. Fish (my goldfish),  in the dorm when he died. (BTW, the " T"  stands for " The" ).

 Enjoy your fish!
