Let someone borrow my PU.  Normally I say " NO" , but this time is just a little bit different.

It is my Preacher and his wife.  They have owned a PU years and years ago, so they have some experience.  Today when they came over to check it out, I went through the setup with them.  I am also going to make a step by step instruction sheet for them to follow (their request).   They may be the only people I let take it somewhere without me.

They are thinking of buying a camper and wanted to try one out to see how they like it.  He said he didn t know we had the Cadillac version of a PU, theirs was alot simpler and didn t have a slide.  I told him they keep coming up with new things just about every year.

Would you let someone use yours to see if they would like it?  Do you think I am asking for problems?

NCSunshineIf you can t trust a preacher, who can you trust?[:D]

I would be hard-pressed to come up with even one person I would lend my PU to.  Perhaps an NNC or SCC member---perhaps.

I m sure yours will come back fine.  Hope it works out well.

NCSunshineHay, Scott... ya know, I could make it down to the Santa Paula rally a LOT faster if I didn t have to tow a trailer behind me, and since it s sooooo close to Ventura, I was thinkin ....

 Nope, better not go there.[;)]

My thoughts also.  Plus I figure God will watch out for both of us.[;)]

NCSunshineA friend just got back from a 10 day family reunion vacation with a story of a cousin who borrowed a pop-up from a friend of theirs since his pop-up had a problem with the lift for the roof.  OK, reading this last sentence, you know that a pop-up OWNER borrowed a friend s pop-up.. Now... they were in Virginia last week and supposedly had some nasty storms come through.  Seems they didn t put the awning " down"  when they left camp for the day, not once, but TWICE.  The awning was ruined the second time.  After my husband told me this, I FORCEFULLY told him THAT is why we will NEVER let someone else borrow our camper!!

I PRAY that God truely is watching over your camper.  I would never wish this problem on anyone!

Acts 2:38 girl

NCSunshineI think that if this preacher and his wife are showing this much concern before they even take it, you have a pretty good chance it will come back just fine!  If they just pulled up with thier tow vehicle, hooked up, then took off with a " woo-hoo"  then there would be some pretty big cause for concern!  [;)]

NCSunshineWith a slide-out involved, how about driving with them (if not too far) and help to setup.  It is always nice if someone is with a newbie to help setup.  You can always leave and maybe take a day trip to help take-down - make a little picnic out of it.

Miss-Teri

NCSunshineI agree with Andrea.  As careful as they were being at asking questions, I would think they would be fine.  Also, if anything happens, he knows he ll be staring out at your face from the pulpit filled with guilt - that would scare anyone into being extra careful!  [;)]

Ron

NCSunshineI would make sure that either my or his insurance covered the camper.

NCSunshineThis is a scary situation, I m sure the Preacher would not do anything to purposely damage anything, but we all know from years of experience that setting up and taking down and towing a PU is something that take a little finesse and ingenuity. We all have our ways of doing things that we ve learned from experience, and all PU s have their little quirks that you only know how to do, like wiggle the door just the right way to latch it or to close the latches on the slide out so you don t snap them off when you walk by. We ve all learned from so many SPUT s that have happened to everyone else[;)]. The first time I ever used a PU was one we borrowed from a friend who was always on my case to take it and try it out. We finally did and fell in love with it, I often wonder what I would do if someone asked to borrow ours, I just don t know. By the way your list looks great, I pull out the slide before the bunkends though. Hope all goes well.

NCSunshineJulia, you may or may not know that I lent my popup to the step-daughter and son-in-law for the Rally. This man has a Master s degree in Engineering. Do not know what classes he took at Texas A&M, but I put that thing together without much help (a drop down Jack sticks and rolling up the awning where I need a little help). I had to stop setting up the Bantam to help him set up the camper that I ahd stocked. He decided he did not need some of the stuff and left them at home, so he did not have a changing room or hot water. They did not bring chairs and the gas line got cut and he would not let us take the lines off MY camper to get them fixed. He did not know how to use a floor jack, and he had no clue how to put up or take down the door and tried to crank down the camper with the door in place.
Nope, not no more, when I get that camper back, it will not be loaned out.

NCSunshineIt s like lending money to some one...intentions are the best but if things go wrong they can go really wrong.  Follow your heart, but I agree with everyone else, no matter how many times we go out, we always forget something, or almost forget something (one of the kids or someone will remember)...but at least at certain points we remember to ask.

I like the suggestion of setting it up for them and taking it down...at the same time, you know the best.  Good luck!!

NCSunshineIt sounds like your PU will be safe, but I will not lend my PU to anyone.
