RE: Carefree Campout Awning ??

DW and I purchased a 1979 Coleman Brandywine a couple of years ago. The awning that came with it fell apart in our hands as we tried to unroll it. I have been looking at the Carefree Campout as a replacement but would like to know if anyone else has this awning. Any feedback would be appreciated.

keith9767The Viking campers come with this awning. It is a bag awning, everything folds up into the bag. Takes a few minutes to put up and take down. We love to use the awning. It is like having another room outside.

keith9767i love my campout...and if you are a handy sorta person, you shoujld be able to install it without much grief...its well worth having!!!

keith9767I read somewhere that the awnings that mount to the camper body may actually have the potential to damage the roof somehow. Does anyone know anything about this. Is it true? Any experiences. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

keith9767We bought the carefree awning for our s this past year...we love it. Very simple to set up and put away. Can be done with only one person if you have too. I have heard that some of the others are more difficult to set up and put away. Good luck with your decision.

keith9767Keith, the problem that was flying around had to do with the Super Sport model and Coleman ABS roofs. Coleman was huffy for a while about warranty issues using the new; and at that time untested; Super Sport model. This has since been resolved.
IMHO The Carefree is the best awning for use on a PU. All the advantages of a bag awning. I used to own one years ago you had to slide into the rail and remove and find a place to store every time you went camping; and it s got the capability of having the uprights attach to the camper. Either one or both. Makes it nice for dog owners; no pole coming down or dog wrapped around it ever 10 minutes.

keith9767I have an A&E Catalina awning, it s nice but I have to fight it sometimes. I saw a demo of the new Carefree awning and didn t like it, too many steps to open/close it.

Check out the Fiamma F-45 awnings. They re a little pricey but very nice. Easy to open & close. www.fiamma.com

I heard Popuptimes was giving those out as promotional items for Arvee members. I even heard there was a big PopUpTimes logo emblazened on the awning.

The Fiamma s are certainly nice however, a little pricey for our 24 yr. old, $500.00 camper. I resist spending more on an item, for the camper, then I actually paid for the camper. Plus we plan to upgrade to a 12 box in a few years and we d then want a larger awning. Probably not the best use of resources at this time.

The Carefree awning you demo d, was it the supersport or the campout? I ve seen a lot of negative feedback on the supersport but not the campout.

keith9767Not to mention the F45 isn t for use on PU s according to the company s description. Their Caravanstore awnings are listed for PU s, but then again they re just a bag awning like the others, nothin special except that are from Europe so warranty issues can get complex.

keith9767Keith chances are when you buy your 12 box, the awning you get for this pu won t be big enough...besides...aren t awnings pretty much standard on newer pus??? at least they are on rockwoods.

I ve seen the F45 and it s perfect for pop ups. Fiamma s market has been primarily class C s and conversion vans. They haven t attacked the pop up market, yet. I m trying to convince them that pop up campers is where is at! Stay tuned.

keith9767We had a Carefree Campout awning installed last year & so far we have been very happy with it. Much better than the awning that came with our Coleman! We considered the Super Sport but at that time there were still issues with it.
