chasd60Thank you very much for sharing this.

My family just got back from the east coast, and was able to visit New York City for a couple of days. Of course, we visited what is now refereed to as the World Trade Center Site.

New York City is a very noisy (not in a bad way) place. Getting off the subway at what I recall is Courtlandt Street, and right in front of the viewing area, I was struck by the subdued quiet. There were many people, but they were all reverently quiet and respectful. It was an errie, and moving moment.

There was a listing of the names of the heroes, all 3000+ of them. Included in those names were the names of my Mother-in-law s friend and former neighbor, and her friend s husband, who were on the Boston Flight.  They were on their way to attend the wedding of her son.

There were messages written on the fence to departed loved ones. There was a cross, made of steel I-beams, that appeared to have erected by the construction workers. There was a spot, apparently accessible to family and friends of the firefighters and other hero s, where a large sign was painted, by the various agencies, thanking the public for their support and prayers.

On some of the surrounding buildings, my wife noted that there is still dust on the windows, at spots that weren t readily accessible for cleaning. There are still adjacent buildings that are not occupied, and one enshrouded in a black covering.

Showing that life goes on, a fire house, directly adjacent, is in the process of being re-built.

One building overlooking the site had a large mural, with the words: " The human spirit is not measured by the size of the act, but by the size of the heart."

In nearby Battery Park, on the southern tip of Manhattan, is a monument, titled " The Sphere" , which was retrieved from the WTC. It is a hand holding a sphere, in a symbol of world peace. It is now tattered, with holes and dents, but it survived. There is an eternal flame, in honor of those who perished.

I m very glad to have been able to bring my family to see this first hand. I hope it is something that we always remember.

B-flatMade me want to go out and renew my membership in the ACLU.  Then it crashed my browser.

Not all of the threats to liberty are beyond our shores.  Some of them have cabinet positions.

In memory of my Uncle Ray, who died at Omaha Beach, my grandparents, who were career Navy, my father, who served in the Coast Guard, and my cousin Mike, who served with the Green Berets in Vietnam.

chasd60Thank you for the site.  It had us except for one paragraph of propaganda that was not really needed.  But even with that, we have shared it with our family and will keep it to do so on future occasions.   Thank you.
