I would like to resurrect an old thread. My wife has had a mild reaction to the Thetford tissue. As I remember in my old age, there had been a thread about some regular toilet tissue easily dissolving. The last time out we used our regular tissue from home and it did not dissolve. I am currently using the Odorless brand in my cassette, but plan to go back to the Thetford chemical as soon as I use up what I have.

I look forward to all of your comments.

oldmooseWhen we had a CP in our Coleman Santa Fe, we used plain ol  Scott Toilet tissue.  never had any problems.  Now that we have the larger holding tank in our camper, we still use Scott Tissue.  Again, no problems.

oldmooseLong as the package of TP says septic tank safe, it should break down just fine.

oldmooseWe use scott s in ours or the very thin walmart 10000 sheets per roll kind, nothing thick or quilted..... and it breaks down easily..

oldmooseI had Scott s clog my dump hole in my cassette potty.  It didn t seem to break down quick enough for us.

oldmooseI don t like the Thetford paper either, and have switched to Scott single ply also. I now have a black tank, that might help somewhat with the break-down?!?!

oldmooseI half filled several jars with water and placed a different kind of toilet paper in each jar.  I found that most of the single ply, very cheap toilet papers disolve the same as the Thetford.
At the same time, none of these are really soft but as in three years of owning the Thetford I have only used it about 18 times, it has not bother me.  In fact some could probably be used as sandpaper.
I would try anything that says it is made for septic tanks in the water test first.  They should work but I would rather be sure. I feel the person who uses it should do the emptying so I would rather be sure.

oldmooseThis weekend I checked a lot of packages of toilet paper to see if any said they were ok for septic systems. Most of them said they were, but only the Scott said RV safe. I may buy a small package and put some in a jar with water to see if it breaks don easily. We would prefer a 2-ply so will keep everyone informed of how my test goes. I will take my time on this though.
