Ok, I ve bought my black streak cleaner and my awning cleaner.  Now I just need something to clean out our water tank and our gray water drain hoses.  Should I just use plain old water/bleach combo, or is there something special I should purchase?

Also, what is the name of the window cleaner again?

JemJen24Plexus is the window cleaner.  As for cleaning out the gray water tanks, I would just use plain water until it came out clear.  At least that s what I use on the tanks/hoses for my Hybrid.  Although, maybe I m missing something too.  I have read about people using dishwasher machine detergent to clean their tanks since it doesn t make suds.  Maybe you could just use that.

madrone

campingboatersDishwasher detergent is pretty toxic stuff, and it doesn t dissolve well in cold water. I would be concerned about using it in the water tank, because it would be difficult to make sure that it was all rinsed out.

White vinegar (a gallon or two in the tank) would be my first choice for a disinfectant.  A dilute bleach solution would be fine, too.

JemJen24Oh I agree with madrone about dishwasher detergent being pretty toxic.  I would NOT use it in my fresh water tank, but MAYBE in my black or gray tanks -- if I exhausted all other avenues.

I would go the white vinegar route in my fresh tank.  I used a diluted bleach solution one year and it took FOREVER to get the smell/taste of bleach out.  I never felt comfortable with the water supply after that.

JemJen24City water it treated with chlorine (chlorine is the active agent in bleach for sanitizing).  A trace of chlorine is ok.  The key is to dilute it enough.

All the water must be drained from the tank, hot water heater, and the lines.  When I do this the PU is on the drive way with the nose wheel as low as it can go to drain as much out of the tank as possible.  Refill the tank and run the water through the faucets for a couple of minutes, drain the system, and repeat.  By the third time the cholrine taste/smell is usually gone.

JemJen24I use a bleach solution to clean the water lines in the PU and the grey water storage tanks and hoses.  When I do my spring sanitizing I run the bleach water down the drain and in to the grey water tanks.  If they get funky smelling during the summer I put some bleach water in the tanks to soak again.

Plexus works great on the windows.
