The Overmans

Camped at Inks Lake State Park [:)] from July 23 thru the July27.  The drive their was simply beautiful.  The different types of terrain were very interesting.  Arrived at state park and the park was large with a beautiful lake.  Camp sites are sometimes to close together with a lot of them not having much shade if any.[: (]  Bathroom and showers were acceptable.  The lake was fantastic[:)].  The bottom was fairly sandy with scattered shell.  Canoes, kayaks were rentable, and there were two boat ramps.  If you are riding bikes, stay off the grasses.  The burrs were punturing many of the childrens tires.[:(].  Locally, the family went thru Longhorn caverns (not handicapped accessable) and went on the Vanishing river Cruise.  The family enjoyed both.  One of the better parks, but very crowded.

QuoteInks Lake State Park

Just to reminisce a bit, I was at this park 35 years ago. I remember it so well because the deer were eating out of our hands. Are the long horns still there? Those days are gone.. It was a beautiful park then and I am sure glad it is now. I have pictures of the park back then. I am sure it has changed.

Turn Key

The OvermansBoy, you sure aren t kidding about Inks being busy!  On the weekends, that place goes 90MPH all day!  Ah, but by Sunday evening, about 6:00pm, peace again reins and the deer return (at least that s what happens in spring!).

 The OvermansHi All,

DW and I were at Inks Lake this past May for a week and we had a great time. We re definitely going to make another trip down to the park. Eveyone is correct. We checked in Sunday afternoon and the park was basically empty, then, all the sudden Friday evening, there is not one open site! It is one busy park!

Turn Key

The OvermansDW and I have decided that the next time we go to Inks, we won t arrive until about 3 pm on Sunday and leave about 10 am on Friday.  Though very nice and not really a problem, that park is just a bit too hectic on the weekends to be enjoyable.

When we lived in Austin, Inks Lake was the only place we would camp.
Generally we would wait until September and October to camp anywhere because of the heat (we were tent-campers then). The west end of the campground was our favorite place...right on the lake, cool, under the shade trees and quiet.
Fishing pier about 25 yards away.
