Hey everyone!  I just thought I d throw this out there...  The Newburgh/NYC North KOA is my " quick-last-minute-it s-a-nice-weekend-pack-up-and-get-outta-here"  CG.  It s literally 15 minutes from my home!  Anyone up for a little mini get-together on whatever weekend??  It opens April 1st.  I m open to whenever - let me know!!

 UPDATE:

OK!  I have cabin fever and just made reservations for April 4th to 6th.  I asked for site 45...  You cannot reserve specific sites, altough I have never had a problem once I asked for a certain one.  I hope some other " COTOCians"  can make it!  [:)]

 copcarguyHi Rick,
I ve heard lots of good things about this place. We haven t been too impressed with KOAs in the past but this one caught my interest (since I keep coming across good reviews). With busy kid schedules & Chris finally working again, we can t plan as many trips as last year. I m hoping to squeeze in a few last minute trips and will certainly keep this place in mind. May also do Otter Lake (Poconos) for a quick spring/fall getaway. Had a great timethere last Mother s Day weekend. It s only 1 hr from home and summer bookings are too hard to get (and 5 day min during summer).

 copcarguyOK...OK.... VERY INTERESTED.

Hibernation period is over.  Had to wait for the new year to see vacation situations (me & DW).

Copcarguy.... This one caught my eye right away (not that others are not interesting us).  We traveled up that way several years ago and since getting the PU considered another trip.

Previously we spent time up the Hudson Valley in the late fall.  DW liked the Mansions and I made a venture to the Rhinebeck Aerodrome.  Too late in the year for the air show but got me a nice ride in an old Folkker (I think) bi-plane.  What a great ride !!!!

Always wanted to get back but don t know the campground situation.  Looks like Newburgh is not too far off and we sure would be interested in hooking up with other PU ers after having such a great time at HR in the Fall.

Since you are from up that way, do you know if the EverReady Diner, up route #9 near Hyde Park is still there???  They had great vittles.

Let us know more about the KOA as we have never done a KOA before, just state parks and a private. (still pretty new at this).

PS - I m looking at the North-South Lake trip too but timing is an issue right now.  Things could change.  I hope they do, as I too travel with my GPS and Bike.  Sounds like a nice trip.

 copcarguyHello everyone!

This KOA is the first one we have ever visited...  it was a spur of the moment, I had an extra day off, and like I said it s 15 minutes from home, so we had nothing to lose.  I wasn t expecting anything good or nice.  I had always camped in SP s or really rustic campgrounds (and NEVER with hookups - GASP!) and thought of KOA s as the " fast food"  of CG s.  Boy, was I 100% WRONG about this one!  What a nice wooded place.  Now, I must say that I am beginning to look for full hookups - we even have cable TV there.

MTNDAVE - the burgers at EverReady are the BEST!  We sometimes get them to go and then head off to the Hyde Park Drive In during the summer to catch a good movie.  We also go camping at Mills-Norrie SP right near there.  It s a small SP with 52 sites.  Always have a blast.  For our " quicky trips" , the KOA is if we want " luxury"  camping and Mills-Norrie is if we want to " rough it"  with no hookups....

copcarguyHi, CCG, we usually do the KOA for memorial day. Love that place, the Jellystone Park at Lazy River down the street in Modena left a bad taste in my mouth from my last visit. So therefore, the Newburgh/New York City North KOA is the only place in the area that  I would consider  . - Beer Belly

 copcarguyHi Rick
Just saw your message about the KOA in Newburgh.
We would be interested, since we are planning to go camping at least once a month and this is not far away for a weekend.
Just got back today from Mahlon Dickerson in Jefferson,NJ.
Planning on going to Otter Lake in PA next month.
Don t know yet where to go in march, but if we do the KOA in april sometime and the North-South in may, the calender is starting to fill up.
 Wait to hear from you.

copcarguyJust thought I d bump this to the top...  [;)]

MTNDAVE

 copcarguyRick,

DW and I are still interested in the Newburg trip so keep us posted.  Depending on when, we may even extend to 3-4 days to do a bit of daytripping.

This weekend is a day trip to Upper Delaware Valley, Narrowsburg/Upper Eddy area for some Eagle watching and maybe a Geocache or two.

Might scope out a campground or two up that way too.

PS - We were thinking of Eveready last weekend and tried to duplicate their bugrer with Blue Cheez.  Good but not the same by far.

 copcarguyRick,
I think I ll have to pass on the April trip. Thought I could get away for some weekends in the spring but Jason registered for a computer class at Montclair State U on Sunday mornings March through mid-May. He ll have to miss a class for our N-S Lake trip in May and I don t think he can miss more than one. Class runs 8:30a-11:30a so we d have to leave Sat night which wouldn t give us much time camping. No fair. Hope you guys have a good time. I ll be thinking of you.

 copcarguyRick,

Whoops !!!   I Missed your update at top of the page with the April date.  I ll have to check dates against work for me & DW but seems to me that may not be a good week.  I ll keep you posted.

Is there a website for this particulsr campground?

copcarguy

 copcarguySee if this link works:

Sorry this weekend isn t good for some of you guys.  The KOA opens April 1st, and this is the first weekend in the season so I thought I d grab it.  I am trying to get in as much camping as possible before July because my sister is getting married and I ll have 15 relatives over from out west for two weeks.  We are using BOTH the TT and the PU as guest houses in the driveway.  Looks like I ll be living in my PU for two weeks set up in the driveway.  I am still open to any other dates so post them on here and maybe we can get together at KOA on another weekend.  Talk to you all soon!  [:)]

copcarguyok, we re game, lets us know when! it will be nice to see ya s![;)] if you can t get everyone for the first weekend how about the second?

copcarguy

copcarguyOk, I have been playing both phone and email tag with KOA for the past week or so...  It s finally confirmed - I m on site 45 arriving Friday, April 4th and leaving Sunday morning April 6th.  Hope some other " COTOCians"  can make this trip!  Keep me posted.

andym86

 copcarguyHi there
OK. Just made reservation for April 4th until the 6th, site# 38.
 Are there any other takers?
DEE107 and MTDAVE? They seemed to show some interest.
  Andy
PS. Rick, would you happen to know if  38 is a decent site?

MTNDAVE

copcarguyAs much as I would like to get an early start on the camping season I am unable.  This is a WORK weekend for me that I had traded off.

I m sure copcarguy as well as others will appreciate why the trade-off.

I traded off so I could attend our Northeast PA Geocaching picnic/campout May 10th - May 11th at Ricketts Glen State Park.  Already have 7 sites in the Lakefront Loop filled and more to reserve.  Will also have quite a few daytrippers and reserved a Pavalion.  Lots of planning to do.

If anyone is interested let me know.  All Geocaching Enthuists are welcome.  We have a couple of links set up for this event includng the event info and a map page showing whi is where.

The DW really wants to camp near the Hudson Valley area but we will have to wait till a little later.  Maybe we can hook up on another date.
