With Tracey off camping and Birol without power it sure is quiet in here. Man there have been no posts now for about 2 hours. Must be some kind of record.

Tim5055

luvourjaycoI wonder how many of our folks are without power???

wiininkwe

luvourjaycoWE have power here in the Grand Rapids area, but I hear it s out as near as Kalamazoo.  I wondered just what affect it would have on the board, and it really is quiet.   As if everyone but us is out camping.

luvourjaycofunny how close we become to everyone here even though I  don t actually personally know anyone from here.   My first thoughts when I heard about the outage was how many of our popup times friends the outage was affecting!

luvourjaycoWe have power here in south jersey, and my sisters have it in far north Jersey...  I guess just the towns in central Jersey are out of luck... I feel bad for them as it is hot and humid[: (]

luvourjaycoWhat if you were out camping in your PU when all of this hit!  [:(]

I m still not convinced this is not terriorist related.  Hope not, but it seems something they might plan.  We shall see....

 Peace!

luvourjaycoWe just had power come back on a little after 8:30 pm. They went out about 4pm.

luvourjaycoWe, in Union County, were without power from about 4pm til 9pm. Our office closed about 4:30 & I got an early start home. Traffic on the highways was fine, but the streets with lights were terrible. People just plowed on through as though no one else was on the road.

We rented a campsite for 2-1/2 months in the jungles of Sussex County and have the popup setup there (with a 20x25 foot tarp keeping it and the AAR dry). Since we go up there every weekend, I leave my emergency stuff in the van.

 Sooooooo.....

When I got home, I carried in a couple of group 24 batteries, 400 watt inverter, 12-volt multi plug adapters, kerosene lanterns (with a quart of lamp oil) and Coby, our 5"  black & white tv, along with some miscellaneous stuff.

After about 10 minutes work, we had 120vac, a fan running, a 15watt low energy flourescent bulb in a table lamp (at the end of a 50  extension cord so we could move it around from room to room) ready for darkness to settle in, a flashlight in every room along with a kerosene lantern or lamp and the 1,000,000 candlepower flashlight & 55 watt 12v halogen work light in a central location (tied to a portable battery pack). In case the water stopped, our 2 Coleman collapsible 5-gallon bags were filled and set aside with our 12-volt pump sporting a 10  length of hose with an on/off adjustable sprayer head attached.

I ate supper, settled down on the sofa (with the fan blowing) and proceeded to watch news reports on Coby. Heck, I ll camp anywhere there s food! LOL

Darn it. The power came back on and I ll need to carry all this cr@p back to the van before leaving for work in the morning. Oh well, it s been tested in case there s a REAL emergency someday. [;)]

???? We dry camp all the time. I guess we wouldn t even know if the electric went out. Actually, that happened to us last year at Letchworth during a storm. The only way we knew we lost power was because the tacky lights went out. [:D]

luvourjaycoI guess I need to watch the news more often! I had no idea about the power outages until I logged on here, and at the same time I was talking on the phone with my aunt and she asked what I thought about it. I said " hey that is the subjects of one of the threads in my camping group. I didn t know what they were talking about!"

Okay so forget the news, just need to read here more often. [:D]

luvourjaycoOf course I was out mowing the lawn in 90 degree heat and was really looking foward to the AC when I got done. Walked in the house about 4:30 and boy was it quite. Power came back on about 8:15 pm, but Road Runner couldn t sort out their servers till just now.
As usual NYC is taking the brunt of the outage. Bloomberg says only spotty subway service for the rush hour Friday.
Around here traffic accidents galore. People don t seem to realize when the powwers out the traffic lights don t work.
Oh and we had one fire. Some nimrod hooked up his generator and set his house on fire.

I was on my way home, when they came on with a " news bulletin"  - my immediate reaction was that some terrible thing happened (not that this is not " terrible" .  When I heard of the outage, thought also about all the people here.

A little while later, I heard that the source could be around the Niagra Falls Plant and thought of the group going to Niagra Falls camping this weekend and it was the Plant rebelling against everyone coming there (including Birol).[;)][;)][;)][;)]

luvourjaycoOur power came back on at noon today, they are still calling for rolling black outs all weekend so I" m going to give the computer a rest, even with a surge protection bar, I don t want to risk anything.

luvourjaycoJust phoned the in-laws, they live about 5 minutes from us, still no power in their neighbourhood.
