I keep telling myself " Resist, I must resist. I won t give in to the Dark Side."  But it keeps tempting me, little by little:

***** Fade In *****

A deep voice is heard from out of the blackness

" Go ahead, buy a bigger pop-up. You NEED that slide-out, furnace, refrigerator, and hot water heater, and more powerful lights. But you ll need dual batteries to run all the extra amp-hours for any length of time. Your master has taught you well."

" You re not satisfied with your pop-up? Go ahead, modify it. Feel the Power. Use a friend s generator to recharge your batteries. What s camping without all the comforts of home? Think that is your last hope? No, there is a another way, Young One..."

" Not happy with your cargo capacity? Modify the suspension, I won t tell. Your technological marvel is insignificant compared to the Power of the Dark Side."

" You still believe you are a *Dry Camper*, but the rally sites have water and power. Bring an electric heater, and hook up to the city water supply. You ll appreciate not having to worry about how much water and amp-hours you use. Trust me."

" The next rally has water and power also, so buy yourself an electric deep fryer to take along. Nobody will notice, it s such a *little* deep fryer. I know what s best for you."

" Guess what? The next rally has full hook-ups. Bring a 9"  TV/VRC player. Your kids will love it. Have I ever lied to you?"

" And now, at last! The coming rally this weekend has full hook-ups as well. Bring a mini-microwave, a custom air mattress, hair driers for your girls, and a couple electric fans to stay cool. Buy a 12x12 shade canopy since you no longer camp in the forests. Leave that Blue Tote at home, because you can use the sewer hook-up.... Give in to the Dark Side, Dave---- *I* am your Wagonmaster!"  (Shhhh-----Ahhhhhhhhh!)

***** Fade Out *****

I am a *Dry Camper*, I tell you! I AM!!! But this slope is getting slippery. Either that, or full hook-ups are the Devil s Spawn.  [;)]

Ab DiverI hear those voices too[&:]

Since the Bodega Bay Rally in June last year, we have camped 14 different times, and only one of those was dry camping[:o]
I went to try to lighten our popup for this weeks trip to Yosemite, and all the same additional stuff that has snuck into our camper also, hairdryer, microwave, TV/VCR, coffee maker, Tacky lights, extension cords,... I even found a deep fat fryer in there[>:]

We must be getting soft in our old age Dave[;)]

Ab DiverIt ain t all that bad.  After trying different parks and types of camping, we ended up staying with the type we ve always enjoyed the most, Provincial Parks in Ontario.  Don t resist so much, just let nature take it s course.   [:)]

Ab DiverHave you looked at the new Starcraft Centennial.

Larger and taller, slide out, furnace, a/c -- love ours glad we did it.[:)][:)]

Ab DiverPlease, keep using those deep fat fryers. That way I ll have a nice selection of " lightly used "  PU s to select from all those estate sales the fryers will help to create.
Want to stay away from the dark side. Check the fryer before the contents " enter the dark side" .

My question is going from water/electric to full hookups is required for the " The next rally has full hook-ups. Bring a 9"  TV/VRC player"  for what reason? I know there s some crappy movies out there, but none I know of requires a sewer connection.

birol

Ab DiverHmmm...   Whatever makes you happy, as long as you camp .... You will only be using it to sleep anyways ...... and in a rain storm, they are better than tents [:)]

I know, but you know what, we camped two times, and the second time was almost completely under rain, with one spectacular storm making our day [8D]

50% rain is not so good  [:D]

Mike, I thought with all your experience you could have figured this one out.
Now that I have taken the 2 blue aquatainers out of the popup, I find that the empty storage space has mysterially been filled with a Microwave, a deep fat fryer, a coffee maker, and a TV/VCR combo[&:]

Birol, you need to camp in California.
Of the 30 plus trips we have taken in our popup, we have only had rain 3 times[8D]

It was just a *next step* in the progression towards the Dark Side. We d actually bought it some months before to make a 22 hour road trip (one way) a little less boring for our girls. Having it at the house, and a camp site 5 hours away, it seemed the thing to do at the time. Little did I know how insidious the Dark Side can be. It never stops tempting you.

So I repeat: " I am a Dry Camper, like my Father before me."  [:D]

Cough! Sputter!  Ack!  ROTFLMAO!  Obviously, you ve never been exposed to *countless* hours of Barney, the Wiggles, or Seabert. [;)]
