I am planing a trip up to Shaver Lake near Fresno for next month.  Has anyone been there and or have any suggestions?

OC Campers

ckkevinWe tried to go to Shaver Lake last year but our tow vehicle was damaged in an accident.  We were planning on staying at the SCE campground (Camp Edison).  I have heard nothing but good things about the CG.  It isn t cheap but has a lot of ammenities.  One drawback is you can only get reservations by mail (If I remember correctly).   It may be something to look at.

Hi. We camped at Camp Edison last year. It is a very nice facility. It was listed #1 on Sunset Magazines campground review. Disclaimer: I m biased as I work for SCE. Camp Edison and our facilities in the Sierras are a great source of pride for the company. I ve had the good fortune to have worked on some projects up there, so I m somewhat familiar with the area.

 Getting There:
It s about an hour and a half drive out of Fresno, take Hwy 41N. to Hwy 180 E. to Hwy 148. The drive is pretty good. The road is a bit windy around Auberry, and the grade is steep up Hwy 168 to Shaver Lake.

 The Facilities
There are many campsites, some lake front, others not. I don t think there is a bad spot in the campground.

Some sites have full hookups, others just Electric and Cable TV. The restrooms and showers are well maintained.

There is a Marina, picnic areas, and a small store.

 Activities
Boating, fishing, hiking, also, there is a nearby stable. Up the road on Hwy 168 is Huntington Lake, beyond that is the more remote areas of Florence Lake and Edison Lake.

 Other
Make sure to visit the Web at SCE.COM and navigate to SCE & Your Community, then Recreation, then Camp Edison. There are detailed descriptions of every site, campround maps, rates, etc.

The general area is in the Sierra National Forrest, there are a number of forest service campgrounds in the area. Huntington Lake is a popular spot, and is very pretty.

P.S.: Camp Edison is very popular, and reservations are hard to come by. The website describes the reservation process. Good luck.
