 I love your logic but for those of us that are lucky we can turn on a TV and get to a channel, I ll have to depend on the mechanic who knows what he is doing.
 
 I won t tell you about the last time I tried to rewire a lamp.

 slowpezI never had a bearing failure on my PU, I repack mine every year or even before a long trip 8 hours or more. I m a little heavy footed and our trips are at least 1.5 to three hours away, mostly flatlands down here so 75+ mph is not unheard of so I make sure they re well taken care of. I have had a bearing failure twice on my boat trailer even though I also repack them and use bearing buddys and all I can say is that it s a major PITA and dangerous to boot, plus whatever colateral damage is done at time of failure. The boat trailer is made of galvanized 3"  channel iron so not much can get damaged other than the 16ga. steel fenders. But you can imagine what would happen to the thin plastic fender wells and all that crummy particle board. How s that go.....an ounce of prevention......
