Firefyter-EmtRemember " The Land of the Lost" ?  I loved that show - it was not a cartoon but it did come on Saturdays -the sleestacks were the lizard like bad guys.  The kids and a Dad were stuck back in dino time - it was pretty cool!!! I used to also love H.R. Puffenstuff and Foghorn Leghorn as well as the Roadrunner and Bugs shows too!!  With todays cartoons there is so little left to the imagination - what is up with " Ed, Ed and Eddie" , " Cow and Chicken" , " Cat/Dog" ?  I wish someone would re-invent cartoons to be fun like they used to instead of just crass.  I do however, get a kick out of SpongeBob - he s a good guy!!!

And although not a cartoon... I was a real fan of
 Captain Kangaroo

I loved the good Captian as well as Mr. Dress Up, although I think it was a Canadian show.

I also seem to recall wathcing the Smurfs, how lame was that show!  I liked those singing rock lessons as well...I m just a Bill, on Capitol hill...or something to that effect

Firefyter-EmtMy favorites were  Woody Woodpecker and Garfield Goose, though Garfield Goose wasn t actually a cartoon, it was puppets.

got woody?

Firefyter-EmtI just want to give a shout out for Hong Kong Phooey!

In a ddition to the Saturday morning shows were of course Scoolhouse Rock in between.

My oldest son is four and I just bought (for him, I swear) the WHOLE collection on DVD.

Firefyter-EmtI guess my fav. would have to be Bugs Bunny. Roadrunner was great. Baby Huewy, now there s an oldie.

 MaryBeth,
Funny you mentioned The Banana Splits.  Just last week while I was sitting around playing my guitar, I hit a note or two, and the next thing I know I had picked out the Banana Splits theme song. Hard to believe I remembered after all these years.

 Firefyter-EmtBugs and the Flintstones!

Firefyter-EmtAnd Old Woody Woodpecker.  Actually any of the OLD cartoons are better than the ones done today, IMO. There s just something about the old hand drawn animation over computer animation that makes them better.

Wait, wait, that s not fair.  They said " as a kid"   The ones I like as a grown-up (yeah right) are something else instead.

 OH MY GOD!!!......THEY KILLED KENNY!

 What about Ren & Stimpy?

rednekrubbrduck

Firefyter-EmtI actually like a couple of the newer ones like the Batman, Superman, and the new Superfriends ones.  They really don t seem like they re for kids.

On another note...just what was in a scooby snack?

Gamecock Camper

rednekrubbrduckI don t think you want to know what is in a Scooby snack.

Uh...........I WAS going to reply to this thread....until I read this.  Honestly, The Smurfs WAS my favorite cartoon as a kid. I used to get up every Saturday morning to watch them.

I ve never been much of a TV watcher but if you ask me what cartoon I liked to watch as a kid, The Smurfs would be the first one that comes to mind.  I memorized each and every Smurf and could name them all off, one at a time.

I also liked Scooby-Doo, but didn t watch that one all the time because certain episodes would give me nightmares (what can I say, I was a sensitive kid).
