AustinBostonThanks for the info!  It s always nice to know about some campgrounds close to home for those times when we decide we want a quick trip on the weekend but don t want to go very far!

And again welcome to MN.  You can t beat 85 degrees in the middle of October!

The original review has disappeared, so I'm posting this again.  I dunno what exactly I said the first time...

Ham Lake Campground
2400 Constance Blvd
Ham Lake, MN  55304
(612) 434-5337

We spent over a month there while we were between houses.  The campground is a mix of open, partly shaded, and heavily wooded sites.  The site we were on is in a section normally reserved for longer stays, and we often had no neighbors.

The campground is located on Ham Lake, where there is swimming, fishing, canoeing, and other boating activities.  Canoes and paddleboats are available to rent.

PJay and I saw common loons, great blue herons, and various waterfoul while canoeing on the lake.  On at least one occasion, one of the kids saw a bald eagle.  Although I never saw one at the campground, I now live less than a mile away and have seen bald eagles in the immediate area.

The restrooms are very clean, the campstore has little more than sodas & chips (but convenience & grocery stores exist within 5 miles).

There is a kind of mini-zoo with sheep, goats, sika and/or fallow deer, and geese, and a small playground.

There were daily, weekly, and seasonal rates when we were there.

I have been told the mosquitoes can be a problem at times, but we were there from mid-August to Mid-Sept. without a serious problem.  PJay was there earlier in the season (early July, IIRC), and she said they were almost unbearable.

But I give it a two thumbs up.
