Gamecock CamperSpeaking of a fishbowl on wheels, do you remember the car that looked like a trash can on wheels??? It was the Volkswagen Thing.  A friend of mine had one and when you rode in it it actually sounded like a lawn mower.

We rented one of these in Hawaii. Four of us sailors...... Early  70 s...... No credit cards...... $200 deposit. I don t think we hurt it, or bent it up. I can t seem to remember.[;)]

Gamecock CamperVW things were unique looking.  I didn t think they were ugly... but I didn t think they were very well made either..... The orange color was U-G-L-Y....

See for your self...... and note that the seller states " you get PLENTY of looks.."

Gamecock CamperMy sister s exhusband had a Thing (along with an old vega bomb).  It was 1 of only 2 in Syracuse (the other was fixed up to look like a big golf cart with tassles on the canopy).  I always thought it looked like a gestapo staff car for the poor people.  I have to admit, it was fun to drive, and did turn heads due to the uniqueness of it.  I visited a buddy of mine from my military days in Oakland, CA yrs back..and a friend of his had one also.  It was canary yellow, and he had added a roll bar/cage, beefed up the suspension and engine, and added rally lights and stuff to turn it into a really nice looking dune buggy.

Yea, the yellow Thing was much better looking than the orange.
