I Wanna Go Camping!!!

It seems that the season is slipping away so fast.  Here in Mid-Ohio the fall is in full bloom and I have not been able to go camping since the first of the summer.

This is my favorite time of the year to camp.  I love the colors of the trees, the smells of the camp fire and breakfast cooking, the cool nights for great sleeping and the frost in the mornings.  I love watching the deer crossing the fields and seeing the heat and steam of their breath.  The smoke rising thru the trees and the crunching of the leaves on the ground as we go for a hike in the woods.

I miss this and I am afraid that I will miss all of this, this year.  My projects to fix up the inside of my house are coming to a head and the bulk of the work is over.  I am down to the details.  If you are interested, I have replaced all the woodwork in the house.   Every baseboard, every door, hand made every door frame, all moldings.  Everything going back to exposed stained wood thru out the house.  This past weekend, we had the whole house carpeted.  I have moved everything I own a least twice this past week.  I replaced wrought iron banisters and railings for stained oak, all piece work.  I have repaired plaster walls and removed a fake plaster brick wall and re-skimmed in my entry way.  I have replaced my back door with a insulated new door.  We bought a new living room set and a new dining room table set.

All of this has kept me from getting away on the weekends.  Winter is coming and I will have to winterize the camper sometime soon.  But I still want to get away at least once this year before the cold really sets in.  Doggone it, I even have this nifty new tow vehicle and I have yet to try it out more than just going around the neighborhood.

I wanna go camping !!!!

Same here Dave - except we did get out in August and had a great time at Indian Lake.

We're hoping to get out 1 more time also.

Down here, most of our leaves got blown off this past week -- you still have them.  Have you had a freeze yet.  We did about 2 wks ago (2 days went down to about 30) and we're debating on winterizing or taking a chance and leaving it open for a few more weeks in hopes that DH can get a job so we can camp 1 more time.

I often wonder why you Northerners don't come South for some winter camping.  The weather is the only thing that keeps us here ;)   Of course, we are close enough to take advantage of Florida's winters also and that sure doesn't hurt!  We have trips scheduled though the end of the year and all are weekend trips except for a 5 day trip to Fort Clinch SP in Florida.  We'll be thinking of ya'll this winter.:D

There are several reasons for us.  The main reason is we can only camp for the weekend and the drive to get to warmer weather would not be worth it.  Also, we have to winterize the PU and since we got the new one, I'm spoiled with hot water and indoor faucets that I wouldn't want to keep winterizing and such.

Dayton Dave    It sounds like you deserve a camping break before it is to late for this season. Why not take a camping trip soon and save some of that work for this winter when it is to cold to do much of anything else?

I agree, camping would be wonderful now - but work won't permit it.  As some may have noticied I have not been to the board much lately.  Right now I'm on day number 17 working without a day off.  looks like about 14 more.

Just finished my fall campin' trip.
we went to RJ'sRanch in Hillsville based on the views of those that made to the PUT rally.
This place was first class in what they did for the kids and adults for Halloween. We had a great time. The leaves were just right but the colors are not as sharp as last year when we had very little rain. But it was nice to wake up at 6am and get coffee going and then sit around the fire..
Saturday was great all day and we kept the fire going most of the time and bed was early saturday 11:30 and back up at 7am to a fire and group breakfast. 5 families went and we group breakfast.. Ate way too much..
But I hope you can get out one last time before the cold gets here and it is coming over the next few days.. This weekend should be about right for campin'. If I did not have sound board on Sunday I would try and go local to the lake.. But I will wait until the Rockingham race and then Thanksgiving at the beach..

For a weekend drive it is too far.  We would have to spend the whole time driving and no time for camping.  I could get vacation time, but the schools will not give the kids unlimited days off and I wouldn't want to take them out of school every year. :)

Randy which beach, which campground? We are looking into camping in Myrtle Beach Thanksgiving week...with all things:the Jayco, because it is easier to tow the distance and we can use the minivan. raymond thought that would be nice...

Ocean Lakes CG on the south side.. The big ole' campground.
Site is #3126 or one of 4 around it.. I know it is in the 3000 block of the CG, The girls(wives) booked the sites and they thought they were near bathhouses but on the map the red sites are all concrete sites, not BH's...HEHEHE.. Could not tell that on the internet map(to small)..
But four families going down Wednesday night and one early Thursday morning..

For those who don't know, Ocean Lakes has a bumper sticker that reads:  All Play. No Work.   Check it out at www.oceanlakes.com  It would be a good place to have a rally as they can accommodate large groups.  The campground is really large, though.  They have a Bluegrass Festival there every year. Plenty of other activities are going on throughout the year.
