I'm thinking of buying one, Mom's Roast were better than mine are. More tender, and quicker. So I go to the web and search for Pressure Cookers. WOW, Now we have generation 1 and generation 2...
Here is one website,
Now which one to get?
Cooking was much easier when DW did it all!

Well you could get a couple of them and have us over for a taste test.

My mother has been cooking with pressure cookers all my life. It's mostly more of a European thing, I think, because my brother in France says they have REALLY nice ones there that have timers on them and everything. While I don't own a pressure cooker myself, I know it's only a matter of time before I break down and get one. If I were to get one, it would be one of these:

But... the programmable ones look REALLY cool: http://www.epinions.com/Farberware_8_qt_Programmable_Pressure_Cooker_FPC800V_Small_Appliances

And once, you get a pressure cooker, there's a yahoo group for recipes. They might even have a better idea of what to buy. ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PressureCookerRecipes/ )

If anyone IS looking for a pressure cooker, make sure you stay away from the cheaper aluminum pressure cookers as aluminum can react with foods -- especially acidic foods such as tomatoes.

My mother also used one for years.   Of course, hers was the old type that you had to run under cold water before you opened it up.  I don't have one, but I have heard to stay away from the Mirro (sp?) brand.  They seem to have problems with the seal.  Don't want one exploding in the house!  Good Luck!

I have used one for years and never had a problem.  I have a Presto, I think it is 6 quarts.  the only thing I would say to be careful about is putting to much in there.  Mine has a max line and it works great if you follow the directions in the book.  I love it.

...i,ve used 1 for yrs, as well. Have a T-fal 5 qt.  Used it 2 make pork roast last nite. Newer ones have double safety locks; the days of scraping spaghetti off the ceiling are pretty much over...lol.  Use it 4 pot roast, pork roast, par-boiling itallion sausage, country style ribs...don't know what i did before it....

I have owned and used 4 in my life and all were Mirro's.  I had a 4 qt and a 12 qt. that I used lots.  I now have a 6 qt and just purchased a new 12 qt.  Our family loves carrots cooked in here so I needed a large one to get enough roast, potatoes and carrots(lots) in.  This is the best tasting roast in my opinion and I have tried a few other ways but came right back to the pressure cooker.

My wife has a T-Fal 6 Qt. and uses it all the time. She loves it and cooks almost everything in it.

Pressure Cooker?....Even the name sounds dangerous! :yikes: I have never used one...But I do own the "Turbo Cooker". Meals are very quick and easy (whole 4lb roasted chicken takes 45min!) It uses water instead of oil to cook things so it is more like a steamer. You can even cook with frozen meats right from the freezer...I got mine 3 years ago when they were $65. You can find them for under $30 now.  Just a suggestion...I never go camping without it!

I grew up with my mom cooking with one. I'm sure she cooked other things, but the only thing I remember is her chunking up some potatoes and putting them in there, then mashing them up. Yum!

Now that everyone's sung the praises of the pressure cooker, how about some recipes?  My mom only used hers to cook artichokes, ergo that's all I know how to do.

Please, give me some ideas!  I need some pressure cooker recipes and how long to cook, etc.
