Do you normally bring pet camping with you?

ckkevin

We normally don't bring our dog camping with us.  However, I have taken her backpacking a couple of times.

Michicampers

Yep, we always bring our dogs camping with us. We even bring their canine caboose (kiddie bike trailer) so they can go biking with us  :).

MtnCamper

Always, Could you leave him home?

Turn Key

After our last dog had to be put down about 5 years ago, I made a deal with DW.  I said that she could have all the new dogs she wanted just as long as they took no more then 4 "C" size batteries!

Yes, Natasha is always with us!

As soon as we start packing, ours won't let us out of his sight!

I'd love sometime to bring all of the "babies", but every place we've checked into only allows a max of 2 dogs per site.  The best one to bring is the littlest, he stays close to the camper, we've brought the beagle several times, but she howls if we are not around and one time she chewed thru the leash when DH walked to the restroom.  She did trail him up there and was in the woods next to it.  He just called her and she came running.

Don't take this the wrong way, I do have a dog and have had many through the years, but we don't take the dog along when we go camping. We go camping to relax and enjoy our time away, not to "baby sit" the dog. I don't mind if others bring their pets at all, as long as they don't let them bark for hours on end.

Gone-Camping

Absolutely NOT... Someone has to stay home and guard the house! Last thing I want to do while camping is run around behind the dog picking up his "stuff" and really don't want to worry about keeping the people in adjoining site's happy by keeping the dog's snout duct taped so he can't bark at everybody that walks by! I'm not particularly interested in flea's, dog hair, and dog smell inside my new trailer either.

LOL...well, my dog doesn't bark at anything so leaving him home to "guard" the house would be a joke...guarding anything with him is a joke.  ;)  Heck...you can literally take food out of his mouth and he won't do anything.... But, it makes for a nice quiet camping dog.... As for fleas..he gets treated with Frontline Plus every month and we've never found a flea on him ( a couple of dead ticks once..but they were dead...)....as for dog smell...he gets bathed so often he always smells good.. as for dog hair....forget it with this one! LOL..IT'S EVERYWHERE!    But then...so is my hair!  ;>

For those in GLPUC who've camped when we've had the 2 dogs with us, knows that the smallest protects our campsite.  Don't no one come near our site he lets us know someone is near.  As far as at home, he barks at ANYONE coming into the house - not even one of us can come in the house without everyone at home knowing it.  The largest dog's are passive and will love you to death - so guarding anything it's more like the size is what people would be afraid of - none would hurt a fly.

We take our dog with us.I dont really care to,for reasons already mentioned + I feel that we are limited in where we  can go,and what we can do, with the "pests" along. Those pests + my wife disagree with me.I dont see the logic but I am out voted, therefore I loose.I'd be in the dog house if I tried to change it.

Our yellow lab comes with us on every camping trip!
