Any good campgrounds within 20 miles from Monterey ?

oldmoose

We stayed at a rv park in Marina. It was not cheap but it was location, location and had full hookups.

Forest,

The CG that Moose was eluding to is Marina Dunes.  It is a 10 minute drive to the Wharf at Monterey from there.  We stay at Marina Dunes every year over Labor Day, and love it.  They have changed ownership during the past year, and the first thing the new owners did was reduce the rates.  They are still on the higher end, but we feel it is well worth it, and the staff and grounds are very nice.

I am thinking of going back there in December sometime...weather permitting of course.

Ooh! Ooh! Check this out!  After a tip from another Cougher, we stayed at the Veteran's Memorial Campground right *in* Monterey a couple years ago. You can't beat this deal: 18 bucks a night, three minutes from Cannery Row and the Aquarium, a HUGE grassy area and playground in front of the campsites for the kids to play, nice bathrooms, and the most moving rendition of "Taps" I have ever heard is played at 10PM every night at the academy next door (it's very haunting as the trumpet's soft notes drift through the fog... and somehow fitting). No water and power at the sites, (water spickets every few sites) but since you ain't paying three hundred bucks for a motel room, who cares? It's a very unique way to stay in Monterey.

Thanks Coughers. Both of the above sound interesting. Who administers the Veteran's Memorial Campground ? Do I have to bring my DD214N ?
P.S-We have already reserved a site in the Santa Cruz area for Thanksgiving Weekend-Cant make"Falling Turkeys".Sounds like you are going to have a blast.

We stayed at Laguna Seca last year.  Great campground, as long as you aren't planning on staying during a race weekend I am told they have less than 30% occupancy.  Nice showers and restrooms.  They have both Elect and non-elect sites.  You can check out their website at:  http://www.co.monterey.ca.us/parks/laguna_seca.htm

We will be up there this coming weekend, we plan on staying on the Navy Base.

Larry,
We should check into doing a spring time rally here.  Looks like a nice place.  Since your a regular maybe you could get us a good group rate.:D

This is a well kept KOA that is in between Santa Cruz and Monterey in the town of Watsonville.

I go there every October.  Manaresa state Beach is just minutes away.  You can ride on vintage steam trains through the redwoods near by in the town of Felton you can even have the train drop you off at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk.  There is also a large flea-market at the drive-in theater on Saturday

By the way a little inside tip:
If you enjoy fresh seafood and find yourself going through the small town of Moss Landing on your way to Monterey you will want to stop in for lunch or dinner at Phil's Fish Market!
