I still am having trouble deciding on an AC unit. I purchase my pop-up without one, and so far, we have been fine with fans and camping in the cooler mountians of NC. I am just not sure if I can go for the $ if I will not use it that much.

Has anyone tried a product I found on ebay. It is just a simple fan that fits on top of a cooler & using DC power w/ lots of ice, provides cool air. The website I found was:http://www.kooleraire.com/index.htm

That's called a swamp cooler.  Been around 'forever'.  One minor problem - the 'cool' feeling comes from damp cool (read 'humid') air.  You will already have 100% humidity in SC.

Yep, and ice consumption will be way more than you want to think about!!!

Thanks for the info.   It is very helpful to work through plans here first before begining.  I am still interested in the Coleman Polar Air 9000btu. http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-air-conditioners/low-profile-rv-air-conditioner.htm

I found a truck camper site where a couple of folks gave there opionon on it.  http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/846887/srt/pa/pging/1/page/2.cfm

I really like the idea of being able to run it off a Honda 2000e  generator.  If I buy an AC, I would really like it to be able to be used as much a possible (even dry camping).  That is why I considered the Kooer aire product for a while.

If anyone has one of these units(Polar aire & Honda 2000e ), let me know how you like it.  Also, where is the best place to buy one (if & when I am ready to upgrade my simple idea of camping!)

Thanks,

My old pop up did not have ac and I camped in June one year at Ocean Lakes. My new pop up is small and I make a couple of my boys sleep in a tent outside. It does cool off at night down there however by 7:00 am It's hot enough to wake me up without ac. With ac I usally sleep in untill 9:00 am. There are lots of people who tent camp at Myrtle beach. Go and have a good time. If you can afford it get ac it worth it.
