Yesterday DH and I went shopping for ourselves.   We realized that our television and vcr were both about 20 years old, and decided to get ourselves a new tv and a dvd player for Christmas.   We found what we wanted almost immediately, got a 27 in tv, and a dvd/vcr/cd/cdr-rw player.   It took us all after noon and into the evening to figure out how to work the main components, but we are so far really geeked at all the things we can do with them.   We have never done this before, bought something together, and I like it.   (of course later when talking to DD, she said "what's the idea of going out shopping for yourselves right before Christmas?   I bought you a dvd player!!")  Well, who would have thought it?!    But, we had already set it up, so she will return and keep shopping for us.

dang! beat me to it......DVDs would be a good gift and hope she thinks of it.  The retailers are playing up on that idea of not forgetting to get something for yourself this Christmas too.   Our 52" is in for repairs so we went out and got a new 27" and put in the big bedroom until our big screen is back.  The tree is in the living room corner where the TV was and bet we don't get it back before Christmas.....

Have your DD get you one of those 45" plasma tvs that you can hang on the wall, and then put your new 27" TV/DVD/VCR/ETC in the PU! ;) :D

There's a place that rents videos near us (tapes & dvd's). The last time we were there they were selling used dvd's at 5/$10. Might tell DD to go to one & buy you a hundred dvd's! ;)

If you have another TV you can keep the second DVD player and hook it to the second TV. :)

:W   Oh,BOY, T!  I'd love to have been a mouse in the corner watching you and Rick get that stuff  all going in the same direction!!  (If Billy and I ever tried to work on a project like that together, there'd  probably  be smoke pouring from the house--and not the chimney!  See, he is the  calm and logical  scientific type, but I  have this really colorful vocabulary that I use when I am putting things together.....) :J

This reminds me of years of putting together stuff for the kids right before Santa's arrival.  I'm a read the directions type.  Others just throw the stuff together. Bummer!

I like to read the "destructions" also. I like to see if I can find any mistakes they made in them.

Good idea, you guys, about having the kids get us some dvd's.   You can bet that I'll pass that one along.   I wish you could have seen us, as NightOwl said, trying to get all the hookups straight.   Actually, the manufacturers have made this much easier than in the days when vcr's first came out.   The hookups are easy, but reading the instructions is a PITA.   Especially when everytime you lay the book down you have to search for the one in English when you go to pick it up again.    Each one came with it's own remote, too, even tho they are compatible and everything will work off either one.   The funny thing is, I am the most computer illiterate person I know, yet DH just sits down in the chair and lets me get busy, but he's also the one using the colorful language when it goofs up.  (Not that it actually did goof up, but I spent a good 10 minutes trying to figure out why we weren't getting any picture, and then realized that I hadn't run the coax to the 'antenna in' on the tv.)   Rented a few dvd's this evening, and just finished watching "The Whale Rider", I loved it!
