Punked out on Coleman Coffeemaker

The coffeemakers were on sale in the Camp Coleman store we visited a few weeks ago ($27 vs $37 @ Walmart). We looked them over carefully before deciding against them. They are very large, bulky and there's that breakable MrCoffee decanter.

The biggest turnoff was in the instructions which, in bold letters, said to remove the coffeemaker from the flame immediately upon the coffee finishing its cooking. By the instructions and warnings, the decanter can't be put back over the stove to "heat it up". Hey, I can't drink 10 cups of coffee at a time and if it cools, I'm not going to heat it in another pot!

So, while crying big tears, we bought a 14-cup Coleman perc pot (enameled in dark blue) to replace our 9-cup aluminum one (which developed a hole in it while sitting on a woodburning stove). It too was on sale....$14.

If we run out of propane or Coleman fuel for our stoves, the 14-cupper can still be used over an open fire. Plus, there's no beating the old percolators for getting that rich coffee flavor.

I really like my Coleman Coffee Pot, but I do agree I dont drink all 14 cups!

I carry it under the rear dinette seat, and it is set up on the outside stove as soon as we make camp.  It stays there for the trip, then back under the seat.

I usually make 1 large cup in the morning (the Dunkin Donut travel cup) and that is all.

I hate instant and am not a big fan of perc coffee, so I was glat to see them come up with this unit. ;)

We got the Coleman Drip Coffee Pot as a gift last summer.  It makes great coffee.  But, you can't keep coffee warm, and the fool that designed it with a glass pot never camped a day in his life.  To minimize risk we kept the original packaging and pack it with the corregated spacers.  When we make a pot we pour it into a thermos.

For a good cup of coffee in the morning I'll put up with the fuss.

Gone-Camping

I looked at them too, but also passed it up. Since the majority of my camping trips have electric hook-up's, I went ahead and bought a "Real" Mr. Coffee and use it quite regularly. On those occassions when I wind up dry camping, I have my blue enamel old fashioned perculator and some special filters to make it work!

I can do just about anything, but unless I get that cup of coffee first thing in the morning, nothing will get done!!!

We have hook ups about 1 out of every 7 to 8 trips, so we went with the Coleman Coffee Maker. We couldn't be happier with it.

It travels in the original box under a dinette seat. We make 8 cups (measure line) in the morning, then turn the flame down to low under the whole assembly. It keeps the coffee warm for quite a while with no problem.

We did this for all 10 of our trips this year without a hitch.

We have done the same thing as katybrj............it was a great addition to our summer of camping.  Got it on sale somewhere for $25.  No regrets!

I just got one for christmas.  How long does it take to brew a full pot?

I passed on that item.  Instead, I use a 4 cup electric drip Mr. Coffee for when I have electric hookups.  When dry camping I have a Revere Ware percolator that works on the stove top for real perked coffee.

On our outside stove, for a full pot, it takes about 5-6 minutes tops.
