Do you ever recycle a gift you received by giving it to someone else, or do you just get rid of it somehow by exchanging, giving to bargain stores for resale or to a needy family?  I hope I am not alone in doing this with unwanted gifts.  Let me know of your success with it.  What is the most unwanted gift you have been able to recycle?

When my parents were newlyweds (@ 17 & 19 years old) they attended a friends wedding.  Since they had no money, they "re-gifted" one their wedding gifts.  Unfortunately, they neglected to remove the tag.  As it turns out, this gift was the same gift the bride had given my parents for their wedding --complete with the original tag before the "re-gifting".:J  ROTFLOL.....My folks still laugh about it to this day saying, "boy, was she pissed!"

I have re-gifted in the past with much better success.  Just make sure you keep the tag with the gift so that you know who gave it to you.  Then remember to remove said tag before re-gifting.:D  LOL

Are they still friends???

I have re-gifted items several times in the past.  One year a friend of mine gave me a tart warmer, along with several tarts.  I have allergies to many scents so this wasn't the best gift for me.  I gave the gift to a neighbor.  Some years I get a box of tarts for the warmer and I always re-gift them to my neighbor. :XMas

When I got married I recieved 5 crysal candy dishes. I don't know about anyone else but you only use one or two. So I kept the ones I knew the people would see and ask about and regifted the rest. I often regift, just repackage and check for tags first. Some people don't think when they give gifts and buy inappropriately. My inlaws never really got to know me even after 10+ years and bought me this really tacky soup tureen that was in the shape of a turkey. They might have thought it was cute but personally I hated the thing. I finally spoke up and got rid of the thing. Sold it and bought something I really wanted. They now either give me gift certificates because I am so hard to buy for or they buy me crystal which I love. After 5 years I still cringe when I think of that turkey and trying to look happy after opening it.  ;)

Yup...we regift occasionally.

We got an ungodly amount of gifts when we got married...and we already had two households worth of stuff! Fortunately, (at least for Holly  ) most of it was bought at Bed, Bath & Beyond. That way she could return duplicates (or "unwanteds").

Does anyone remember the Seinfeld episode about regifting?

After my folks' stop laughing, they say, "she had no sense of humor."  To answer you question, "no, they did not remain friends."

Yes, I remember the Seinfeld "re-gifting" episode....too funny.  It was that episode I was thinking of when I first read this original post.

When we got married, we got 6 beautifully outfitted picnic baskets and 4  woks (20 years ago woks were pretty hot gifts, I guess  ;) .) We regifted a couple of the woks, and ended up using all the picnic baskets for other purposes - some are still housing Hot Wheels cars and drafting tools. DH just got a bottle of that awful eggnog mix (not the fresh kind) from an employee, but I don't have the heart to regift it to any of my friends. Anybody want it?

WOW! What perfect timing!  I just did this today and was feeling a little guilty!  I was short on some gift baskets for the boys Sunday School teachers and needed a few little things.  Well, some friends dropped off a really nice basket to us full of candies, teas, & cocoas and I just "borrowed" some of the teas.  They were vanilla and I really don't care for vanilla tae or coffee at all.  Plus they fit perfectly in the teachers baskets!    :)   I'm so glad I am not the only one doing this!

My name is Larry, and I'm a regifter.

I started regifting as a young bachelor. I moved on to ....

When my daughter's great-uncle on paternal side passed away, it was her task to clean out the house.  Great-uncle was very well known for giving practical gifts as well as for re-gifting.  He never threw anything away, either.  While helping with the chore, we came across a partly opened box of those electrostatic dusters.  He had ordered 2 dozen because the original packing slip was still in the box.  This kind had the different colors of yellow, red and blue.  We gave those to all our friends as a "cordless duster" and explained where they came from.  Everyone said the only kind of duster they ever had was cordless.....all got a big laugh out of that, especially because they knew of his gifting and regifting.:D    We also found numerous crystal nut dishes (both crystal and silverplated), several woks, picnic baskets, flat warming trays, sets of dishes, glasses, shirts, ties, socks, and other stuff still with the tags on.   Too much stuff to mention here for someone who lived to be 98.

All in unison......

"Hi Larry!"

I also regift.  Sometimes the gift is the perfect selection... for someone else.  I see nothing wrong with regifting as long as you check for tags and cards and don't regift back to the original giver.

I got a few things this time that I was thinking about as regifts.  Then, bingo!  I decided I would just save for the camper....like the pasta pot set.  The two pots fit inside each other and the lock on lids will be perfect at the campsite.  The fig scented body wash might be a regift, though.:(

LOL..not into smelling like a fig newton?  what does a fig smell like anyway??  ;)

B-flat

Well, to answer what a fig smells like in this body wash stuff, just think of about a 1000 figs that have been turned into concentrate just for the perfume! Duh. It almost knocked me off my seat when I opened it in front of the giver but I was able to pass it on to the other ladies beside me for a whiff so that they could also agree that it smelled "wonderful.";) :D :J
