I was wondering if anyone has any info on camping at Lopez Lake? We are camping at Pismo with everybody in June & leaving on Monday the 28th and then moving on to a different campsite in the Central Coast area. Anyone camp there before? What are the better sites?

Thanks! - Rich

Rich,
We stayed at Lake Lopez for 3 nights in August 2001, the year we got our Niagara.
There was something for almost everyone in the park.
Some sites, like the one we got was quiet, with our nearest neighbors being over 100 feet away, yet there were some sites that were very close to each other.
There is a water park there, and the sites close to it (Mustang Loop), were very crowded, and seemed noisy.
We did go to the water park to cool off, and it was nice, plenty of people, but not too crowded, but it was mid week.
The lake was nice; we went swimming in it one day and a lifeguard was on duty. There were plenty of places to fish from, and the boats are kept away from the fishing and swimming areas.
There was plenty of wildlife in the park, with deer and wild turkeys wandering through our site every day.
Lake Lopez is somewhere we would recommend and would like to return there ourselves sometime.

Thanks Kevin for the info. We may try this CG right after Pismo. Do you remember which campsite you liked the most?

All I can remember is, we were in the Eagle loop.
We were able to walk down to the lake from our campsite, and do some fishing on an inlet.

SimiRich-

For what it's worth we had reservations for Lopez during the week we were at Cachuma, in case we wanted to extend our trip. We were comfortable at Cachuma so we didn't make it to Lopez but when I called Lopez to make the reservation I spoke to a ranger about getting a nice site. He set us up in Bluejay #4. Said he thought it was a real nice site.

This is great information Holly & Kevin. I am going to call this week to see if anything is available after our Pismo outing.

Thanks again! :)

Don't have any input as to sites, but we tried to book Memorial Day weekend here and they are already sold completely out!  The gal said people come in there to check in and before they even leave the office, they are booking their sites for next year!  Must be a pretty nice place!

Maybe we should try to hold another "combined" rally there.  Seems pretty central for both groups.

But I guess we should plan it pretty far ahead!

How about the weekend of September 17th-19th? :D

So....am I missing something?  Is there already something planned that I don't know about? Geesh, you people are hard to keep up with!

Actually, we'd love to plan a trip to Lopez (or anywhere else!) in September (anytime except for the last weekend which is always reserved for Rivernook!) EXCEPT Alison has been invited onto the competitive gymnastics team, and September is when competition season begins.

So...I'm afraid all of our Fall camping will have to revolve around her meet schedule, which we won't know until late August.  Can't even plan Rivernook, really.  WAAAAAH!  I like to plan ahead and KNOW when I'm going camping....:(

Nope, you're not missing anything at all.  You know how this group is...someone asks an innocent question and we start to plan a rally! :D   BTW, who would be interested in going to Lopez Lake the weekend of Sept. 17th-19th?

We also like to know when we're going camping, and Dave and I sat down the other night and planned out what weekends we're going camping for the rest of the year!  For those of of a similar mind, be sure to keep Oct. 15-17 open for the 2nd Annual "Trick-or-Treat in Temecula" Rally!

Okay, how about August?  We could make it a Thurs-Sunday trip and the kids would still be out of school...what about the weekend of the 19th -22 or maybe the weekend before Labor Day, the 26th -29th?

that may work...Dan's twin visits every Aug for 2 weeks, it'll depend on when he comes but I think the 26th -29th would be best, (kevin will be 10 on the 27th... double digits..I'm old now  :( )

I'll e-mail his brother and see if I can get dates from him.

my favorite thing to do as a kid at Lopez was sliding down the slopes on cardboard boxes weee haaw!! (I also remember my moms reaction when I shredded a pair of pants  )

Welcome to our world!  We have softball starting in February, but we won't get our schedules until late February/early March, so I can't make any plans.  Then there's a possible All Star schedule, which we won't know until early May.  It makes it really hard to plan a camping trip.  And this past weekend would have been a great opportunity for us, but who would have thought the weather would be so great so we'd plan a trip??  AARRGGHH  Another missed opportunity.  I told my husband on the way to church, "I love our church, but I sure wish I was packing up the trailer right now."

Oh, and to really mess us up, if my son gets into the high school program we're applying for, he'll have to take a summer school class, which will make taking a vacation interesting.
