One thing I'd like to see (somehow!) is to be able to see at least how many are logged in from the page -- maybe even who is logged in without going over to the chat room.

I don't understand what you mean by "from the page" ??
If you click on the chat room link it will tell you who is in the room at that time

I mean from this page -- up at the top if it could say next to the link for the chat room, (# of people there now, or the names of those there)

That's a neat idea so that you would know when some of your buddies are in the chat room, before you go there without having to log into it.
