We are planning our annual July camping trip to Michigan and we want to try somewhere new this year.  We will do a week at Lakeport State Park just north of Port Huron and for our second week, we were thinking of somewhere near Spring Lake, on the west side of the state.

Any suggestions?  We've heard about PJ Hoffmaster?

Thanks in advance,

Tena

We go to Fort Custer near Battle Creek and Warren dunes on Lake Michigan.  The lots at Warren Dunes are wooded but most are fairly small. Some lots at Fort Custer are so big that you could set up for PUs on them and so wooded that sometimes you cannot see your neighbor.
You will need early reservations at both.
Fort Custer has three lakes in the park, one with a nice swimming beach about a mile from the campground. The is fishing on all three lakes There are miles of good biking trails plus miles of roads for people who are not good enough for the trails.
We love Warren Dunes in the early spring and late fall when it is not as crowded.  It is on Lake Michigan with good hiking trails and sand dunes on lake Michigan.  At neither of them do you have lake front sites. It fills up even faster then Fort Custer.
On a rainy camping day there is more to do for childrenn nearby Battle Creek for children then there is near Warren Dunes.
If it was not so early I could probably think of more so let me know if you need any other information.

Another great Place is Silver Lake Sand Dunes.  They have many nice campgrounds in the area.  But it is very popular, make reservations early.
