Woke up to our first snow of the year.  You would have thought it was Christmas all over again, my almost 5 yr old DD and my 3 yr old DD are beside themselves.  Maybe they don't remember it from last year, because they are acting like it is the first time they have ever seen it and are sooooooo excited.  My 5yr old DD said "It's Christmas".

It is so much fun watching the world through their eyes.  I remember how excited I used to be, and alot of the excitement comes from not getting alot of snow in our area.

For the ones who get alot of snow, does it excite you with the first snow of the season or do you hate to see it come?

The ones who do not get alot of snow, do you get excited or happy to see it snow?  Just wondering.

I was exciting to see some snow falling this a.m. when I got up down in south central NC.  We normally don't get much snow but it has been falling all morning and the ground is covered now.  I like to  see it fall and then when the sun comes out in a day or two it is all gone.

at this time 1pm we have 1-2 inches on the ground here in town where I work, but the roads are clear.
I had that at the house this morning at 7am, and the roads were covered.

people here are so unused to snow that they freak out when we get any and invade the  grocery stores; "stocking up" so that they clean the shelves of  milk and bread and other staples.  We usually get  4 or 5 inches at most, and ordinarily after a day or two it's all  gone.  The local children LOVE it of course,  and that white mantle makes the mountains and our ubiquitous evergreens very beautiful.

I still miss real MIchigan winter, though, and going snowshoeing and X-country skiing, skating and Ice Fishing.  (ja, marked forever by my Norwegian ancestors.)

Yes, NightOwl is right and I think the weathermen/women have something going on with the grocery stores.  They probably own stock in them.:D   We have about 3" in south central NC.  Yesterday I stopped in the store on the way home and hardly any bread or milk in sight.  I keep a couple of loaves in the freezer just in case.  What is it about milk and loaf bread, anyway?  You can have croissants, muffins, and cheese danish or something else more exciting than a loaf of bread.  Sandwiches get tiresome after a couple of days, anyway.  I just stay in on the days that weather conditions are not good.  It usually lasts 2 or 3 days around here and then gone, when and if we get snow.

For me it's just watching the kids, they get so excited.  They went out and built a snowman, the first for the 5 and 3 yr olds.  I just love to watch it fall, doesn't have to stay.  Yeah I guess we are different;)

NCS, just show me ANYONE who doesnt get a lump in their throat from watching kids frolic joyeously in the snow, who doesnt get a silly surge of fun from catching snowflakes on the end of their tongue, and I will show you someone who is OLD no matter what their chronology says.  Even those who live in the snowy north and get tired of  ground which is white for 4 or 5 months enjoy many aspects of the snow.  Of course, it isnt quite the thrill it is in southern climes, but still, I never met anyone who really hates snow (unless it is a guy wielding a snowshovel in a foot or snow of newfallen snow--DONT ask him what he thinks of it at that moment, wait until the pain fades a bit!)

And snow is not a lot of fun to drive on--especially after it is packed down and turns to ICE.  (Another reason it is more fun for kids than their parents.)

Snow, that's the white stuff, right?

We live in FL.  The wife was born & raised here.  She saw snow the first time on our honeymoon.  We tent camped in Colorado for 2 weeks.  We took the cog train up to Pike's Peak, and there was plenty of it.

I lived in England for a number of years, and in Northern MI for 3 years.  I've seen all I need to.

Our two sons haven't seen any yet.  In a couple of years, when they're old enough to travel longer distances, we'll head to the mountains in the Winter.

So where are the pics?

Amazing things! It snowed here too, not the first snow we've had this year, but it's the first time it's accumultated. Funny thing...they closed the Chesapeake Public Schools, yet there was no snow on the roads! Everything that hit pavement or concrete melted on contact, yet they close the schools for this! Go figure...

It was nice seeing the lawns and tree's covered with the white stuff, kind of reminds me of back home (Mass)

That's why I love Wisconsin. I couldn't stand to live in an area with basically the same weather year-round. Sure, I can't camp as much as the people down south, but I wouldn't have it any other way.:W
