It's the time of year when many think of getting healthier by eating a better diet, reducing weight, getting more physically fit and improving overall well-being.  Please don't take this offensively as it only comes from a published source called Men's Magazine.  Some cities are ranked as being the fattest cities and their status has  changed in the past year. This year's ranking on left and last year's ranking is on the right of city:   Top 10 are: 1.  Detroit 3;  2. Houston 1;  3. Dallas 9;  4. San Antonio 13;  5. Chicago 2;  6. Ft.Worth 16;  7. Philadelphia 4; 8. Arlington,TX not ranked;  9. Cleveland 6;  10. Columbus,OH 8.  I really wonder how they go about collecting these statistics from these obviously larger cities.  I also notice that some have moved down in ranking and others moved up.  My city was not listed but does anyone want to be  labeled as living in "Fat City?";) :D :o   :J  Can someone tell me how they go about finding the statistics for these rankings or is this just one more kind of stuff the media has made up?

I can!  I can!  The statistics were collected by Men's Fitness Magazine.  They also ranked the fittest cities (how come we didn't hear about those?!)  If you go to the second page of this article you can see where they got their data and how they analyzed it.

Kelly (who is happy to report that her metro area made the fittest list ~through no help from her chocolate diet!!)

Thanks, Kelly. Ummmmm, I don't think these cities will restrict allowing their junk food places and bars per 100,000 people from coming in just so they can lower their rankings. However, they did seem to choose from a broad range of things like commutes, what people ate, exercise and so forth. Interesting reading.

Well, since I hail from a suburb northest of Philadelphia, I think that list a bunch of baloney (to use a fattening lunchmeat  ;) ).  We're no longer the "fattest" city on their list, but I'll tell you that NOTHING has changed in our city except we have a vegetarian Mayor who is into fitness (and corruption, but THAT is another story altogether).  How many people do you REALLY think he motivated to get off the couch and stop eating Cheesesteaks and soft pretzels!?   :D
