Beginning Feb 1, 2004, the NC Division of Parks and Recreation will raise fees. Included in the increase is camping for tent/trailer will increase from $12 to $15/night. The fees don't affect discounts granted to those 62 or older for camping. They contend that the parks are still very afforable and that they researched what other parks in the southeast are charging for services and are aiming at the middle range, according to the director of parks.

The above is for non-electric sites but the news article I read in the local paper did not give the cost increase for the electric-water hookup sites which is generally about $17 per night.  I assume it will go up to $20.

With all the problems our state has had with budget shortfalls, I think a small increase is fair.  I hope it will generate enough to help keep our parks clean, safe, & well maintained.

NC does have some nice parks as well as state recreational areas.  Some are rather primitive and natural while others are more modern.  Some have on-going programs about nature with siminars and presentations, nature walks, and other things which are "free."   We're blessed to have these parks for our use.
