Update on my mom

My mom did in fact have a heart attack, and through God's grace, it was not a massive one.  Poor girl, she is also suffering from pnuemonia and is having the worst time trying to breathe.  She is on oxygen and a number of different antibiotics and medications to fight the bacteria and fluid in her lungs and to try to open up her bronchial passages.

She was in the ICU Friday, and then they moved her out to the regular ward on Saturday.  When I visited her yesterday, she was really struggling to breathe and was so very thirsty, but is on fluid restriction while they try to get the fluid out of her lungs.  Not being able to drink when she's really thirsty makes her cranky, but I see that as a good sign.  They finally tried some steroids (sounds like prednazone) last night, and she really felt an improvement and sounded much better.  Hopefully she'll be able to go home sometime this next week.

I'll be going over to be with her again today, along with my sister and her husband.  I have been able to very quickly check the boards and have been passing along everyone's well wishes and prayers.  It brings a smile to her face and a tear to her eye.  Thank you everyone for being so nice and for keeping her in your prayers. Having friends like you brings a smile to my face and tear or two to my eyes too. :)

Lori, I am glad to here Wynn is improving. I hope she is up and about soon. She is an active woman and I am sure the hospital is driving her nuts.  That in itself would make me cranky.  Please give her a hug from us.

Please give her a hug from Georgeanne and me.  Glad she's responding, but she definitely needs to rest for a while.

Lori,
Sorry to hear about your Mom. I pray that she'll get better real soon. Being cranky and antsy is a good sign.

Thanks for all your prayers and well wishes.  I have passed them on to my mom, and she has appreciated them greatly.

I brought my mom home from the hospital yesterday.  She's tremedously weak, and I'm going to have to arrange for in-home nursing for a few weeks to help with her meals and daily care.  She has a home health care company coming in to give her twice-daily injections and to take labs to send to her doctor, which will probably last for a few weeks.  Thankfully, my sister is staying with her this weekend to give me a rest.

After I got her home, I ran to the drug store to get her medications--no less than 13 of them to the tune of almost $500, and I don't even think that they're a month's worth!  And talk about confusing!  Some are taken in the morning, some in the evening, some in the morning and evening, some at a certain amount for so many days then the dosage changes, and on and on.  She would never be able to figure it out in her weakened and compromised state.  The doctors and nurses were throwing so much information and instructions at us, I can't even keep track of it all!  I keep telling myself that this initial time after her discharge will be the hardest and then as the drugs reach theraputic levels and she regains her strength, it will get easier and she'll return to living a more normal life.  But this is a scary time for her and our family, so please continue keep us in your prayers.  Thank you so much and bless you all!

Lori, I think you are right that this initial time when everything is new and different is the hardest.  Anytime you have questions, call those doctors and get the lowdown.  You probably know by now that it's good to have more than on person going along on doctor visits just to take in all the information.  Maybe a tape recorder would help.  Please pass on to Wynn that she is thought of often here in Ventura and know that the rest of your family is also.

Gosh -

I am away from the boards for a while and all kinds of things happen.

Lori - I am so sorry to hear about Wynn's heart attack.  Your family is on our minds and in our prayers.  We have been saying for months that we should call you and get together with you and Wynn for a meal at Hometown Buffett.

Please let Wynn know that we send our love and that she is in our thoughts and prayers.  We really enjoyed her company at the Temecula rally.  We are looking forward to her complete recovery so we can have the buffet!

Hey, did I hear Hometown Buffet?  My kids love that place.  If you all decide to go can a Northern Orange County family come too?  It doesn't look like we can all get together for a camping trip but how about dinner?:)

Jacqui -

Anytime you want to have dinner, just let us know!  Any day is a good day for Home Town Buffett.
