My name is Jay I am julecavs husband. I need to know anything you guys know about a thing called a converter for the trailer harness on my 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I need to wire it tommorrow and the harness is $80.00. Can I just buy a converter at auto zone and use that? I dont see why not but some of you probably know more about them then I do!! If you can help please do so. What size to use and anything speceal I should know!! Thanx for all of your time!!!!

I'm kind of guessing here at what you need, but believe you're talking about the plug that goes into the Jeeps tail light system and creates the plug for the trailer? If this is so, then I do believe you could probably buy one a lot cheaper than that, even Wal-Mart sells these things.

Do keep in mind though, that the Grand Cherokee does use some kind of conversion rig in that plug. This is due to the fact that the Jeeps turn signals are 'Amber' colored, and the brake lights are 'Red' colored. This converter piece is used to combine the two different light signals into something the trailer can use, since both the turn signals and brake lights on the trailer at Red.

At any rate, you would need one of these special rigs, you just can't wire up a Jeep like an ordinary car with all red rear lights. I'm hoping this is what you're talking about???

You should be able to get an adaptor that will T into your existing wiring without have to cut anything. The converter should come with the harrness kit. Ok this is a shameless plug for my employer but here goes.

This is the one that needs no cutting, :D it is probably the one AZ priced you. If they have it cheaper will with match their price.

This is just the converter by itself. You will have to cut and splice :( he wires though.

By the way can anyone tell me the way to insert links with out all the long names? I remember reading it but I've forgotten how.

Same T-Connector, but a better price at this link.

Same company I bought mine from 4 years ago.  Very quick installation.  Just undo a factory connector, snap this T-connector between 'em, and mount the converter box with a nylon tie wrap.  Yer dun.  Takes 5 minutes.

The way to insert a link without the html gobbledygook is to click the icon in the toolbar above your reply message.  Looks like a globe over a chain link (global link).  It'll prompt you for the name of the link, and the address of the link.  I usually don't bother unless the link is REAL long.

I did it it was real easy to do. You can use any converter you like. It is just to make the 3 wire brake/blinker combo to a 2wire!! It works fine! Thanx

I used the Insert Link button but it still showed the complete url.

I learned from MtnCamper that you need to first go to your control panel options & select "standard toolbar". The display changes a bit to an easier to understand format. When you click on the globe, it will then ask for the NAME and then for the LINK. It takes care of the rest for you.

Yup, Standard toolbar is better.
