Quote from: UnregisteredYou are not allowed to travel through Kanan with a tent trailer ??? That is news to me. WOW.. I hope no one got cited.

So we leave the campsite and head back toward Kanan because that was the way we came TO the campsite. We turn right on Kanan and marvel at all the traffic coming to the beach and see a highway patrol about 400 feet up the road on the shoulder going the same way we are. As I appraoch him (before I reach him) he turns on his flashers and as I pass him, he takes off from the shoulder behind us. I figure he wants to pass us for some emergency or something so I pull over but I see that he slows down with me. I am now completely stopped on the side of the road & he pulls up besides me (thank God not behind me to give me a ticket) and yells through the passenger side of his cruiser "didn't you see the sign back there saying No Trailers?" I said NO - which way am I allowed to go? He says Decker Cayon or Malibu Canyon. (I'm thinking to myself - I'm not going over Decker Cyn. with a trailer) So I ask him how do I turn around and he says there's a area to pull out just up the road and off he goes offering no assistance to help me turn around on a very busy Kanan Rd. We quickly find the turn out & at the same time there was a break in the traffic so we turn around just in time and head back towards Malibu Cyn. That's when we saw Dave & Lori heading UP Kanan Rd.

Tamara tried calling Lori's cell to warn them but only got a voice mail. I'm glad to hear that they made it through with no problems.

I have yet to see the sign warning that there are no trailers allowed on Kanan Rd. So beware!

Gosh Rich.  You have the dumbest luck.  Wasn't it you that got yelled at by the highway patrol on the way to Temecula about being in the wrong lane?  Even though you were in a traffic jam?  I have traveled Kanan a lot of times and have never seen a no trailers sign.  Maybe a no trucks but never a no trailer sign.  I guess I can see why because of the tunnels but a popup would have no problem with the tunnels.

We got pretty lucky.  We went about 5 miles down the PCH and found a left turn that had a dirt lot next to it that we could turn around in.  It is not easy making a u-turn with a trailer.  Plus the traffic was sooo heavy.

It's a blessing that I had my cell phone off and didn't get Tamara's message as we headed down Kanan, or otherwise, I would have been paranoid and neurotic about driving through the canyon the whole way to the Ventura fwy! :yikes:

I didn't see any sign that said "no trailers" on Kanan, but then again, I was a bit frustrated not being able to find a place to turn around on PCH and maybe I was too focused on the one that said Ventura Freeway 13 miles" :o
