I just installed a Prodigy Brake Control on my '01 Tahoe.  I do not have ready access to my trailer so I don't know if it's "working".  I found the "plug" that the wiring harness is plugged into.  I do get the right codes when I plugged the controler into the wiring harness.  A couple of questions.  Does it stay on all the time?  When the engine is off and the keys are out, I still get a double dot showing up on the display.  Is this what I should be getting?  Is it okay it leave it plugged in all the time?  Is there anyway to check it out without hooking up to the trailer?
Thanks!

The controler I have stays powered all the time. The LED pulls very little power.

Hey all!

The double red dots will stay on for 15 minutes after there is no activity... (vehicle movement and/or brake pedal application) it will then shut itself off automatically. Sounds like you hooked it up correctly. If you slide the manual lever over, it should show the two dots with "nc" (No trailer Connected) in the middle. Also, the reason you have two dots and not one is that you set it to have the "boost" feature on. If you push the blue button on the the right top, the display should show a B1 , B2 or B3. We found B1 to work the best for us. If you shut off the boost, you will have only one dot all the time. And yes, the dots will be there all the time, trailer or not. The Prodigy is the BEST brake controller I have ever owned - in fact I own 2 of them. One in my '01 F-250 Powerstroke and one in my '03 E-250 van.

Copcarguy has it right.  The dots will stay there until the unit is inactive.  I also think the Prodigy is the best brake controller made.  I have used my 2 seasons with out any problems. :)

I leave the controller in year round, so I don't even see it anymore.  I can always tell when I take someone out to lunch for the first time, because I'll get the question, 'What is that thing?'.

I'll "third" what copcarguy said.  Before you get in your TV some time, look through the window and notice that the lights are out.  They may come on as soon as you open the door because of the vibration that creates.  The unit works by sensing the movement of the vehicle, and so it is fairly sensitive to that movement.

I had a Tekonsha Voyager before getting the Prodigy.  I have never heard of anyone who has actually used one that prefers something else.  I don't believe the prodigy is perfect, but in the places it's less than perfect, it's closer to perfection than just about anything else.

The Jordan Ultima may be better, but the Ultima is a lot more money, and can be very difficult to install in some vehicles.

Sounds right to me BB. Thats one thing nice about the Prodigy (among many nice things), it has the ability to troubleshoot itself. The first time in use, our Prodigy let me know that the trailer wasn't connected (electrically). When I checked it out, sure enough, the cord wasn't well seated. I'm sold on the product.
